It has recently come to my attention that resident Oneironaut Escher has been tugged away from SL, and not only does he now not have high speed internet access, his account was also canceled. This is the message he asked me to pass on to you all:

I've only been in SL for about a month and a half now.
This last week of no access to it has been pure
torture. Throughout my real life, I have suffered
from major recurrent depression. Nothing, and I mean
nothing has been as much of a relief to me as the
creative outlet that SL has provided. Now, that is
gone.

The entirety of my real life has collapsed. I'm doing
what I can to pick up the pieces, and hope to get
things back in order with SL. All of this happened
with me just on the verge of getting a lifetime
membership, so it is ultimately frustrating.

I've been quite proud of the work I have done on my
carnival in Stanford and hope to be able to continue
on it in the future. It is all dependent on me
getting the funds and regaining access to a high speed
connection, both of which look unlikely at this point.

If any of my neighbors in Stanford read this (Highya
Dan, Ant, Neil, Neph, Myr and all the rest!) please,
do what you can to insure that by carnival is not
overrun - I thank you in advance

And to all of you who are used to seeing me IW most
all of the time, I'll be absent for at least the next
couple of weeks while things get worked out. . .if
they do

. Please, understand that I am trying
everything in my power to get back in, just seems
unlikely at the moment.

In the interim, everyone, please feel free to make use
of my chess board - I apologise for its unfinished
look. Before this sudden exit, I had just raised it
off the ground with the intent of making it into the
roof of a building. A couple things about the board:
The kings do not become phantom when they move (my
intent for this was so that players could ride in the
kings) so, pieces will have to be moved out of their
way to move them. Also, there is a reset button for
the board - it is a small, plain, wooden cube located
near my voting box. To move pieces on the board,
click on the piece you want to move, then click the
square you would like it to move to. Please, have
fun.

The carnival itself was on the verge of me opening it.
Unfortunately, all the rides are keyed to only my
commands

For now, they'll be unusable.

I have yet to meet someone in SL that I didn't like -
you guys are all great! I hope upon hope that I can
get things resolved and get back in game. It was such
a relief to me, and I yearn for it again. Hopefully I
can come up with the funding to sustain my account.
It seems unlikely at this point, but I am trying. I
miss all of you dearly.

I also will help on the carneval if you want, and good luck to you Oneironaut, I hope you get it all together soon!

I have a good idea what you are going thru, I too suffer from major depression. I get highly upset when I miss a few hours of SL due to ISP problems or what not. An extended loss of Sl would devestate me. I hope you get your problems taken care of quickly. Hang in there.

Thoughts are with you Oneir!

Anyone know how often you have to log in to SL to keep your account active? I assume around a month...

My broadband connection has degraded over the last two weeks to the point now that it is slower than dialup (I am serious... it takes around a minute just to load Google).
It's obviously not just me, as I've been hanging on the phone for at least 2 hours an evening for the last 3 days, and I still havent got through to someone yet... must be alot of anoyed customers! Damn NTL!

...so now I'M starting to get quite depressed - not a patch on what Oneir is going through I know... at least I can read the forums at work... I still have a link to SL, thank the stars!

Hi guys!

I've fixed my cookie issue, and can now post to the boards (obviously).

First off, sorry if the relayed message above sounded more severe than maybe it should have.

Things had made a turn for the worst as of late in my real life, but nothing that I can't deal with. I generally never talk about my r/l at all in SL (and plan to continue this policy) I just felt it appropo to reveal some of what was going on so that you all knew my leaving of SL wasn't a matter of light consequence. Only the most extreme of things could keep me away.

And away I'll be, for at least a few days more.

However, things are gettting worked out, and I should be back IW by next week.

At first, this forced absence was, as I said, torture. However, I've come to realise something very basic: I can still SL even outside of SL. Been working on some scripting and planning of things, and hope to return better than ever.

I do soo much appreciate you guys' words of support, and hope to see you all sooner than later.
