((names edit))
I bought the "f"RENT VENDOR about a week ago, i read the notecard and i did what it said, i could not figure out what was wrong, it just would not work...
The vendor i paid was L$9,000....
I IM "frent hidges", and he said he would help me. I have waited for almost 2 weeks, with the vendor collecting dust. He would just send me offline emails.. and would never get on.
Im so tired of waiting for him to come on to help me. so i sent him an email saying i want a refund on the product. He later IM me very quickly saying i could not get a refund.. and he will help me set it up.. He never is online, and i have heard that the vendor is buggy and some ppl already have problems with it.
I later found out that other ppl is having the same problem, and he does not want to refund.....
I paid $9,000 for something that i am never gonna use... its what i call a rip off..!!
What do you think?
*no drama in my tread.. * LOL even though this is some kind of drama!
He should give a refund for the item, since he is never online to help his custumers?
or
No, He sold the item as is..

I think it ought to do something friggin wonderful for 9k. There are a shedload of entirely free vendor systems. There are even more at just a few hundred. Many are copyable so you can do as many as you like. Hell, there are wholly networked, copyable systems with web based stats for way less than that. Oh, and I think you'll get in trouble for calling out someone by name in the forums, too

I bought them at a discounted price a while back, they are easy to manage when you work out how to set them up, but they are FECKING NOISY, I have the servers in my house and GOD it drives me NUTS, i've had to mute them all If you want me to send you a sample notecard of whats in my vendors, showing you how they need to be set up to sell, I will do when I get in world

if you are interested i managed to finish my new networked vendor, 100 to 150 item capacity multiple pannels display (in fact you can use as many as you want ,i use 25) automatic vendor list cleaning daily you just rez your vendor and everything else is automatic, it handle server unresponsiveness (in case the sim is down)
and all the datas are encrypted between client and server all the datas are compressed on the server side, thus allowing that many items to be stored
and its very quiet
i havent put them for sale yet but if you are interested, i use a single server that hold all my stuffs and feed 14 vendors

I just bought a vendor for 3k, which gives you a "CATALOG" so the custumers can shop at home.. and it also gives you the "VENDOR" all in the same servers, and all update on the same time which is awsome and very easy to access.. and very quiet.

We bought the same system Wuvme, for L$10k a few months ago. We have a server rack set up in our Grignano store with (I think) 7 servers in it that service about 14 locations.
We really had no problems setting it up, although the first location we tried failed so we moved them to Grignano.
In my personal opinion it is a great system, sure saves a lot of traveling around when you have some new items to put in your vendors. All you have to do is pop them into the server, chat a few words and all of the vendors linked are updated with new picture and object. to sell.
They are noisy tho, but it is Whisper so it doesn't go that far.

It sounds like whoever makes these should upgrade them to use llOwnerSay() instead of llWhisper()... or have a toggle for quiet mode / loud mode.

Neg rate his behavior and building. I've never balked at giving people a refund. If they aren't happy with my stuff then I don't want them to be out the money they paid. Heck I have refunded people just because they had a hard time getting the pierce to show. I have never ran across a person that would not give a refund. Totally greedy. Heck, it even makes me want to go neg. him. Briana Dawson

A few months ago, a close friend of mine in SL contacted me because her husband had bought the same vending machine system for 10k a few months back. From the moment he purchased it, he was never able to get it to work. He is not technically inept - the thing for whatever reason would not work. All he wanted was a replacement that would work. He contacted the owner, who played email and IM tag with him for a long time, then would make appointments to meet in SL and not show up. Finally an update came, but it still did not work.
My friend IMed me and asked me if I knew the creator, who I knew only in passing but I agreed to try to help. 10k for a non-working item is ridiculous - the least he could do at that point was to refund the item.
After talking to the creator, he said he would not refund it "on principle" because it worked for others, but he would get in contact to help them. They never heard from him again, and eventually just wrote off the 10k. All I have to say with any big ticket item is buyer beware, and look for alternatives - there are excellent vending machine systems, even fully distributed ones that synch up with the web, that don't cost $10k.

I have heard nightmare stories of bad sellers refusing to stand by their product. I have an idea that might work. ....
We have a rating system in SL but it's very generic, anyone can neg anyone for any reason. I think the rating system found on Ebay works well, saving me much trouble by looking at the seller's reputation before making my purchase. I think a similar rating system would be wonderful here in SL. This rating would only be used to rate a transaction, only those who transact can give such a rating. I believe this would keep the seller's honest. This kind of rating would require the name of the rate giving party and a short description of the transaction, just like Ebay. The transaction would also be saved, listing what was sold.
Maybe this is to much to hope for, and I do see a down side, if you sell $1L items you might get a group attack on your reputation. But by requiring the raters identity to be exposed the buyer could verify this neg rating was the action of a griefer..
Who knows, just an idea. Anything we could do to warn others of bad sellers would be great.

I know someone who sells networked vendors for 1750L. I use them all over the grid. They don't require much effort... you rez a server, pack it with items and textures with matching names (textures are [item name, price] and then the items are just [item name]) - no config except for email reporting. They don't do all the same things that SOME *ahem* others do - but they keep you from packing vendor after vendor and running all over creation to add things. And they don't hurt your wallet THAT badly.

For several months I've used Gigas vendors from SecondServer.net. Apart from a couple of technical hiccups, which they helped me with quickly, I'm pretty happy with them. More importantly, you don't have to lay down thousands to start using them... the vendor itself is free and they collect a small percentage of your sales as a usage fee. So if you fail to sell anything, you're not stuck with a huge overhead. And as a bonus, the same items you sell in the vendor can be sold on their website with no fees.

I got the Jvne i think that is what its called.. It works as a vendor system, and as well as a catalog system that gives the owner the catalog so they can shop at your store from home. I am very happy with it, it was very easy set up, and the lady who sells it is very nice and she is always willing to help. The server is great, it lets you update catalog and vendors in the same servers. It only costs $3k, and its working fine! If you was thinking of buying that 9k vendor, you might think again I dont really care for the money, its his attitude that pisses me off... the item is not working and he wont replace it or even help me with it.

I know this guy. He's always acted honourably in my experience. Last time I heard from him, he was temporarily out of SL because his house flooded or something. That might explain why he can't show up online. His vendor is a centralized in-world solution. I've never seen an open-source/free model that offers the same features. While I've never used his vendor myself, I do know people who do and are happy with it. If chattiness is a problem, one thing you could do is put the servers in the sky, out of earshot. Who made this home-shopping catalog? We toyed with the idea a long time ago, but it kinda ended up in the "neat idea, doubt I'll ever get around to it" pile. Glad someone did it

I have been told that these vendor networks cause lag. Several malls I know of do not allow them. Anyone have any insight on this?

well here I am...

Hi all,
I am quite willing to defend my actions :
I made these vendors quite a while ago, as a result of being a merchant myself and having a need for a system that does as much as this one does. I have been meaning to get enough time to update them adequately using new scripting options, but a few real world things like a pregnant wife who's not been well, a 1 year old and a flooded basement have kept me busy outside the game.
Christiano : I attempted to contact your friends MANY times, with no responses - I think i may even have the emails to prove this.
I always offer refunds to people who are unsatisfied with my products. It was only after offer an explanation for my absense and being told that she didn't give a S*^t and if I didnt show up 'this would go bad' that I was inclined not to offer a refund. I could not believe the kind of rudeness I experienced from you Wuvme, it was aggregious and certainly un-called for given the circumstances.
I then let Wuvme make the time for our meeting - last night at 7pm game time - i showed up, waited and then wrote to her to inform her again that I was dissapointed in her conduct. She never arrived, and I left.
While I think that the merchants of SL ( and everywhere) have a lot of responsibility to their customers and patrons, I dont' agree with the adage that 'the customer is always right'. Simply being a customer does not give you the right to berate someone, attack them publicly or treat them as your inferior.
Clearly there are new items on the market and clearly it's time to adjust my pricing scheme. All my previous customers always get copies of my upgraded system at no cost, and I always help them through email when I can't be in-game. Wuvme refused to send questions through email (game IM's in fact) and insisted i show up.
I think that's all I have to say - I thank those of you who defended my name as I have strived to treat people fairly and justly in my time in SL. I hope and plan to continue my efforts, and I hope those of you that know me will lose little respect of this issue.
cheers,
Trent.

Although I've not purchased a vendor and i don't know trent, Im just part of the preview test team, I noticed that these vendors were affected on some occasions with the 1.6.4 patch, when LL changed the ways sim's managed email handling, in some cases emails got stuck at the sim and the vendors would get stuck at please wait updating, they would be ok when the person came out and reset them, so far since 1.6.6 this seems to be fixed.
