Ok last gasp attempt - has anyone had problems since the last update cus basically SL is now unplayable for me and its nvidia's drivers that are the problem and ONLY with SL.
I've tried every driver there is all the way back to the original that came with the card, a 5700LE, and nothing works - while running SL I keep getting fatal errors on the drivers that shut the pc down.
I'm not gonna trash the card just cus it wont run SL so does anyone have any idea's?

last update to SL or to NVidia?
This might be a small possibility. Check the cooling fans on the video card. Make sure they are not being obstructed by any build up of dust. In another system of mine - where I was pushing the limits of what my case could cool - it would crash with the same errors and the system would shut down while playing certain games that demanded a lot of graphics work.
If you need to remove the drivers completely. Check to see if there any spots on the web that describe removing the drivers in detail in case the software uninstall program is missing some libraries.

I'm really starting to sound like a broken record here, but do you have shadows turned off? The number one cause of crashes right now is shadows.
Also what Noel said about the cooling fan could certainly be a contributing factor. I use a Quadro FX 3000 card (3D modeling card) that has a pretty beefy fan on it, but even with that I had to add a second PCI slot fan right below it for SL.

The latest Nvidia drivers cause problems with Project Entropia, and Mindark is recommending players back them out. SL may be crashing due to an unrelated issue, but it might be worth reinstalling the older drivers to see.

Im not sure if Im having the same problem as you, but I do have Nvidia card. After upgrading to windows XP, so I could get in SL...my computer began randomly rebooting. It does it in another game also. I now have the side of the computer open and a fan blowing on it, and the problem has apparently stopped. So, maybe overheating is the problem, as people have suggested here. Good Luck...I know how very frustrating it is.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one...

Glad to hear I'm not the only one having problems with a Nvidia card and SL. I have the 6800 which I just picked up in a new computer (basically just so I could get into SL), but am having it crash left and right. I talked with someone else in-world who said they were having problems and had to start using another (slower) computer just to get in SL and not have it crash every two minutes.
The suggestion about shadows is good - I'm fairly certain I have those on, so that might make a difference. I'll try that when I get home.

Also, I am not using the most current driver, as the newest gave me alot of issues before. I am using one released July 15, 2004.

Shadows are broken.
I'm using the same card you are, same drivers... SL has crashed a grand total of twice since the 1.6 update... before it was random CTD's.
Turn off shadows and you should be fine.
If you're still getting troubles, update your AGP, Motherboard, and sound drivers.

Thanks for the tip about turning off shadows!!! I just went in and didn't have it crash on me while flying around for the first time since I started using SL...I think that did the trick.

From: Tchock Nielsen Thanks for the tip about turning off shadows!!! I just went in and didn't have it crash on me while flying around for the first time since I started using SL...I think that did the trick. Glad to hear it worked. 99 times out of a hundred, anyone who's crashing these days is suffering due to shadows. I really don't know why they haven't added a warning to the login screen and stickied it at the top of every forum. There would be a lot less complaining if they did.
