A few things are still confusing me.
1. Selling clothes for example. Now, the going rate for a t-shirt/top seems to be between 40 and 60 dollars. So I design a shirt in Photoshop - and pay 10 dollars to upload it into SL. Collar isn't right and the back Arm is too long, so I amend it and upload it again for another 10 dollars. A further revision and I have now spent 30 dollars. So to sell it (after some good advice from Billie Sunchaser - thanks), I create a box (another 10 dollars), drop the t-shirt into the Contents and set a price. However I can find no way to show a nice image of the t-shirt on the box so that people can see what they are buying, without uploading yet another image (10 dollars again).
So I have spent 50 dollars to make a shirt that I can charge 50 dollars for.
What am I doing wrong here, as this seems mad. There is no way to preview the item without uploading it repeatedly.
---
2. Why is the world map such an odd shape with a narrow central passage that everyone must fly through. This gives shop owners/builders there a big advantage and makes flying north - south a real pain. I can see no reason for it at all? The lack of wilderness makes the world feel claustrophobic and limited.
---
3. Why doesn't the SL website keep me logged in. When surfing around it, I seem to be constantly logging in every few minutes. I can understand this for the account stuff, but the forums?
---
4. What is the etiquette for exchanging Cards. It seems that whenever I fly by someone I do not know they exhange cards with me - often mid-flight. After 2 days I have stacks of them, but many are people I haven't spoken to at all! Is this just the way it works. I don't know who most of them are. It is very friendly of them, but would it be rude to turn people down if I do not know them at all?
Exchanging cards after having a chat is fine, but when I land in a busy area I am inundated with requests from folk that often then just fly off.
Thanks for any info/guidance. It is appreciated.

You're doing nothing wrong, unfortunately that is the way it is. It's a pain to get clothes right, and I admire anyone with the patience to do it. You do know that you can sell multiple copies of the shirt once you have made it though? So your $50 investment will pay back lots of times if enough people buy your shirt. When you set the price, just underneath (or above, can't remember now) there are a couple of options, 'sell original' and 'sell copy'. From: someone 2. Why is the world map such an odd shape with a narrow central passage that everyone must fly through. This gives shop owners/builders there a big advantage and makes flying north - south a real pain. Land in Tan is twice the price of land elsewhere (except Aqua), meaning the store owners and builders there are paying for the advantage. Yes, I agree it's a pain to fly through. From: someone 3. Why doesn't the SL website keep me logged in. When surfing around it, I seem to be constantly logging in every few minutes. I can understand this for the account stuff, but the forums? There is an option somewhere in the user control panel... let me look.... *rumages through browser*... select 'User Control Panel' from the drop down box at the bottom of this page, then select Edit Options. You probably want the 'Browse board with cookies?' and 'Automatically login when you return to the site?' set to yes. From: someone 4. What is the etiquette for exchanging Cards. It seems that whenever I fly by someone I do not know they exhange cards with me - often mid-flight. I just accept them all, then sort them into folders in my inventory (i.e. Friends, Lindens, Neighbours...etc). There is a leaderboard that counts how many cards you have collected, some people are trying to get on that I guess. It can be a pain with all the 'X had logged in' messages, but I've learnt to ignore them now. *phew* Hope that helps

There are a couple of ways around this. Some people just drop the shirt texture on one side of the box. You can also scale/position the texture so that only the front or back of the "shirt" shows up on the box. I think it's more useful, however, to have a snapshot of someone wearing the clothes. In this case, it will indeed cost you the extra 10 for the snapshot upload. But, as Cailyn said, you make it back if the product sells. From: someone 4. What is the etiquette for exchanging Cards. This has always annoyed me to no end, too. I believe that part of your weekly stipend bonus is calculated based on how many cards you have and/or how many people have your card. You'll eventually get used to it, and in a few weeks, you might appreciate it. One of these days you'll be talking to someone about some issue or another, and they'll tell you that you should talk to "so-and-so" about it. You'll look in your inventory, realize you have "so-and-so's" calling card, and try in vain to remember where and under what circumstances you met this person. But the end result is that you have the calling card, you know at a glance whether or not the person is online, and since they foisted their card off on you, it's sort of difficult for them to ignore your IM's without being completely rude and looking like a total ass.

A thought on trading cards. I try to trade with anyone I meet that I dont have, but I always try to say hello and not interrupt what they may be doing. I have got a lot of cards this week and it apparently generates a bonus, but I dont know how this works and its not why I do it. I do it solely to increase my experience in SL. If I have your card, I will know if your online, I can IM with you and I can track your location. The more players I have traded cards with, the more opportunity I have to get to know people and see what is going on in their part of the world. I am pretty social and a big part of the game for me is helping out others and exploring the world. When I find myself with little to do (rare occasion), I will drop in on someone I have not gotten to know and see what they are up too. If you have my card and your not too sure who I am, please feel free to track me and see what I am up too. I am almost always up for a chat. Looking forward to seeing you in world. ~Loki

I agree with Loki; I always get the cards of new residents, let them know to IM me with any questions. Linden liasons are helpful, but they work banker's hours if you are not a Pacific Coast player. As for the number of cards, you are going to have people tell you to talk to certain players about scripts or items they have for sale and it sure helps to have their card.
