All I want to do is hang out in the welcome area or play tringo or make my woman's leg lamp and I'm sure the Lindens are pulling their hair out but it is still frustrating. This update was supposed to fix things.

Nah Phil never said it would fix things, only that it might. Apprently it didn't so we are back to square 1.
But in fairness, noone ever said it would fix things, just that it could.

I tried flying instead of tp'ing and crashed twice so I guess that isn't the answer so I shall meditate.

I believe because this was an (obviously) rushed and somewhat experimental launch, that is took them several builds to tweak a few things and get it right. If it took another half hour and they bought more time and a better configuration... GIDDYUP!
I downloaded a new patch (1.6.5.7) and I'm doing fine.
