The beta memorial...

I know the person that did this. I am... disappointed.

There is a system in place to deal with this on a player level - ratings. You don't like the tea boxes rate them negative or take away their positive vote if you already voted for them. I would keep track of them though and if they put back nice builds (or stop defacing public landmarks) then change their rating back to undecided or positive. You could even be open with them about it. Tell them that you normally like their builds if you already gave them a positive rating, but that you don't think tea boxes are deserving of that rating. It is what the system is there for.

And in case you can't tell, I too think it has gone too far, even though I got jumped on that it was 'all in fun' when I posted under the linden loyalists thread, it just really doesn't seem to be. /sigh. Just can't win.

The box isn't there anymore. Apparently my ratings hold enough power that when I rate someone negatively, they fix their ways :D Thank you to "the person who built that box" for promptly getting rid of it.

Hmm, i noticed a lot of those tea boxes around when i was flying around looking for some land. Mostly around the Americana sim. I hope that whoever is doing this will be smart about it, and rather than make other's angry for defacing land they shouldn't, they will instead simply either try and enact the change in peaceful ways, or just take their metaphoric ball and go home (i.e., if they don't like the way things are, leave). I'm not telling them to leave, but if they feel that strongly about it, why continue to give the lindens money for something they don't like.

There is a "No tea!" sign available for copying at my tree in Slate (the one without teaboxes stuck in it, but with a lightning bolt on top). Feel free to use it as you please, just don't pollute the world with it like the teabox people do. Thanks :)

Interesting thing is these folks plead poor and want tax relief yet they can afford to upload textures and rez prims by the dozens.

Not true Mis.....

Simply just not True...
Most of these textures have been uploaded long before tax burdons were starting to become too heavy.

If your going to spout, please spout the truth.

Crow

P.S.....Huns is correct....plans within plans. Americana isn't stupid, we know what we are doing.

MY BAD
08-06-2003 09:55
I am afraid that the Tea Crate at the Beta Memorial was indeed crossing the line. I realize that art (SL) may imitate life (RL) but it is just plain disrespectful to engage in vandalism.

I am very grateful to Huns and Dave for contacting me regarding their concerns over the incident. (Props to Dave for pointing out that a giant DON'T TREAD ON ME Gadsden Flag TREADING on the Memorial is just a BIT hypocritical. Shame on me for missing the obvious irony.)

If it is any consolation, I had positioned the crate to obscure my name on the memorial. But the metaphor is a poor one. I am very proud of all the people on that list, as well as many more that were not included, for their hard work and inspiration in building the world to this point. I am sorry to have dissapointed the people who have made SL the wonderful, unique place it is. The place I have made my Second Home.

I have a great respect for OPEN DEBATE and have found the various posts re: TAXES extremely valuable to my awareness and understanding of Linden policy and potential aversion to aspects of it.

Thanks again for the measured responce to my faux pas!

General,
You are an Avatar of great integrity and character. Not many admit their faults, ask for forgiveness, and move on. Most would defend their actions, even to their own demise.

You have impressed me once again, and I am proud to be serving in your army.

My god....

Fleabite, Crow, I have the utmost respect for you both, but really... what are you fighting? Taxes?! The Lindens are doing all they can to fix it. The economy?! The Lindens are hard at work 24/7 on that too. If you could please just tell me what you're fighting, arguing, trying to improve or any other of the things you may be doing, and perhaps I will understand your viewpoint more. Thank you.

Umm, if I'm not mistaken, I believe they're rollplaying, and they don't want to give away the "endgame" just yet.

Of course, I could be wrong. :D

Grim,
It's good to know that there are people out there who hear EVERYTHING that's said.
Thanks.
Hhahaha. This is fun. God we love this game.

Here is my problem with that cop out...

If they are just roleplaying then they don't really care about the tax situation as much but could lead others, especially newbies to believe that SL is in havoc and the economy in ruins.... YOU COULD BE DRIVING AWAY PLAYERS

Either way, I am a member of Americana, and one of the oldest though i recognize the former 66 and a couple others in the group as my elders.

Do I not have a say in Americana having tea crates and fire everywhere?

To me social upheaval and protest is only to come after the system fails. THIS SYSTEM HASN'T FAILED. The Lindens are the most responsive team every, if people would put forth ideas on how to fix it. OTHER THAN lower taxes or drop taxes then they would be able to do something.

so their RP could have undesired consequences and has made it so I have no desire to log in... I have a hard enough time fighting moronic ideas about economic and political issues in the Real World, fighting in SL right now is too much for me.

Jon,
Of course you have a say. As soon as you log in and talk to us, or our join us in our group forum so we can engage in open discussion.
And don't try to blame your not logging in on us, the protest has been going on for a few days and you haven't been in game for practically a month, outside of maybe a few random times for a few minutes.

It's not a cop out, because we didn't say it.

You know how respected you are for your intelligence and knowledge of what you speak about. Why get involved unless you know all the facts?
The attendance has been up in Americana since the revolution started...we are turning no one away.
And your taking the whole thing way to serious.
