Domino Fashions (Clara 60,165 by the Amphitheater) is now closed. Recently i have discovered that certain persons have been distributing my merchandise without my permission. Domino Fashions has been price-optional since beta but this does not give anyone the right to distribute or sell my work. until i can come up with a solution to prevent this i am closing shop. thank you to all who have supported my work and my efforts to give back to the SL community. i hope this will only be for a very short time.
please if you see boxes of my clothing anywhere but in my shop it's without my permission. please let me know if you do. i've tried the experiment of a price-optional shop and it's been a lot more successful than i ever expected. i've actually been able to make enough money thru donations to cover the shop and enough extra to motivate me to keep creating free fashions. i wish i could keep it up but it's really discouraging when people abuse it. if you want anything i've made i'm more than happy to give it to you but the only condition is you don't go around passing out my boxes with your name on them. i'm the only authorized source for my work. it's only the votes and occasional donation i get from people coming to my shop that let me keep things free.

Gah. I'm sorry that this has happened to you -- I enjoyed visiting your shop very much the other night.

Damiana, I'm sorry to see your shop go. It's quite a novel idea, would you be interested in trying a couple of things? You could sell out of the Kazenojin shop, and put up a donation box there if you like. Also, you could set your fashions for sale for just $1 and keep control of the packaging, at least. I would hate to see your wonderful line of clothing disappear.

Possible Idea
08-15-2003 11:00
I am relatively new, but I do have a suggestion about the couple of cases of copyright infringement I have seen.
What I would suggest could either go in the new consumer reports magazine that is coming out or be a separate issue (and to be most effective it would need to be part of a free publication.) Someone (or some group) could be designated to be a 'Better Business Bureau' type of representative. This person could keep a list of stores, what they sell, and most importantly a trust worthiness rating for the shop.
If a couple of people reported that store X was selling things made by another user, it could be reported and investigated.
If a rating was low people could make an effort to not shop from those people. A person could move their store or something, but how much money can you make when you are moving around a lot?
The person running this would probably need a couple of volunteers (someone to donate some sort of automated note card dispenser, ideally one that could deliver a note card across the world, and people that live in different areas so when someone submits a store to the directory it can be checked out in person).
Like I said at the beginning, this might be something that goes in the Consumer Reports magazine, but I really think to be the most effective it would need to be free to everyone. If no one wants to do this for free, I will volunteer, assuming I can get someone in each sim to volunteer and check out the stores in their area.
I have seem the similar posts about copyrights, etc, but seeing how there is no real punishment available (you can't throw an avatar in jail, or force a fine) the only real power we have is to get consumers to not shop in places that ignore intellectual property.
Again, just an idea from a n00b (coming on two weeks in world), but what do you think?

That's a drag Damiana. I haven't noticed it happening with my clothes yet but I suppose it's inevitable. Can't wait for 1.1 so we'll finally have protections on clothes, textures, and scripts! Hope you'll reopen then.

My stuff gets handed around too. I have yet to find it being sold but then I dont get around as much as I used to. If anyone sees someone elses stuff for sale, you *should* tell the maker asap. If you see someone giving out stuff you should advise them thats uncool and advise the maker. These issues *should* be addressed in v 1.1
This has been going on a long time.

thanks for all the support and advice everyone..i really hope i can work this out. Ananda that's a good idea about the $1 thing. i'll have to look into it and see if i can prevent people from making copies of the boxes. i was just about to put a ton of new stuff out there and this really stomped my enthusiasm. thanks again tho..i really appreciate everyone who's made the shop a success even tho there's no reason it should have been one.
