Hey all, FIRST OFF: My apologies if you got a notecard from me today and got upset. BL is coming up soon and I wanted to get this idea out there among the BL participants as fast as possible. Of course, while rushing headlong into this I forgot that I myself get pissed when I get spammed. So please accept my apologies. NOW ON TO THE MEAT OF THE MATTER: Burning Life participants: is there any interest in killing two birds with one stone, as one person put it, and banding together to help raise money for Katrina relief while at the same time promoting the Burning Life festival? As others have stated, LL seems to be letting BL drop to the wayside this year. I know I've seen truly jaw dropping things happening on the BL sims and I'd love for people to come and see all your hard work. However, I personally feel like this is an opportunity to do something to help raise money for Katrina. We already have fantastic things for people to come and see - can we use that traffic to help raise money for relief organizations? **I know that probably not a few of you out there are going through volunteer fatigue. There have been fundraisers all this week. There are more coming. PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS POST OR THIS IDEA LIKE YOU ARE FORCED TO PARTICIPATE - YOU AREN'T! I would never try to guilt or prod someone into participating in something like this - if you've already done what you can, donated what you can, have RL responsibilities - no sweat, really. I've already gotten back responses from a few BL artists that they'd be interested in auctioning off BL builds, other items, or they can help promote in other ways. I'm posting this to try and get as much feedback about this as I can. Things I was thinking about (please, add yours!) - Auctioning off your burning life build with the proceeds going to Katrina relief
- creating a commemorative keepsake relating to your build and "selling" them for donations. (After an initial check with Jeska on this, it seems to be kosher.)
- volunteering a small section of your BL plot for a *small* sign that lists donation hotlines, i.e. Red Cross et. al.
I dropped a line to some SL businesses that have helped in organizing and consolidating Katrina donations thus far to see if they would be able to help with one more. I created a group, "Burning Life - Art Does Its Part" with open enrollment. If you're interested in being a part of this, IM me or just join the group and I will keep updates on the group channel. The way I see it, this would be a win-win situation. It gets people over to Burning Life to check out all the wonderful creations you guys have made, and it gives SL one more venue to help raise money to assist in relief and rescue efforts. Ideas? Comments? Think I suck eggs? Let me know! Thanks again for your time Cory Edo

I fully support this - if you need help with things like scripting donation boxen or whatnot, call on me. And I'd be happy to auction off my build for this too. Not that another L$15 will make a big diff...

Count me in. When you get the signs/donation boxes, I'll put one on my build land. If there's anything I can put up in my store and on my own land to send people to BL and the efforts there, I'll do that as well.

I'm In!

I've been thinking about this as well, trying to puzzle out a way to do something to raise funds, concerned about burnout from other Katrina-fundraisers and also following the Relay For Life fundraiser last week.
I'd be happy to sell my display, if anyone would have it. Would it be possilbe to set up a bidding system, ala the silent auction used at RFL? I'm not a coder but I know we've a ton of talent running around SL, maybe someone would be willing to help with that (on such ridiculously short notice, at that)?
I most certainly will happily place an informational poster/thingie on my plot!
I've got an audio stream (RadioRadio) I'm willing to help "host" event(s) related to this as well.
Count me in!
Fighting floodwaters and misfortune, Madame Maracas

Thanks so much Jillian & Jonquille (and Madame, too! Just saw your post when I refreshed)! Its great to have three such talented people on board with this. I will absolutely let you both know when I have a list of "we need this" stuff set up. Still waiting to hear back from the coordinator that I dropped a line to - hopefully he's not too overstretched to give a hand with accepting donations. I had also thought about trying to scarf the silent auction setup used at Race for the Cure. Hopefully I'll get some good lines out with peeps on this. (Also, we really have until the 12th to get at least the auction prepared, of course it would be better to have it done sooner, but no one feel panicked that we have to get this done by tomorrow. I have tomorrow off of work as well so I'm dropping as much time as I can on this.) Oh - and I've also gotten word that we can auction off pandastrong Fairplay for the good of the cause. I'm not sure what you'd do with him after you got him, but I'm sure he has many, ahem, "talents" that would be worth investing in. So that will either bring in a record breaking amount, or $L5. *runs to trade in $US on GOM* More info as soon as I have it!

I'm not sure what the market is for 150 to 500 prim fractal sculptures, but I'll donate them to the cause if someone will buy them! Just checked - there's a nice butterflyish-like one that is only 60 prims

RL work has cut down on my SL time, but I may be able to whip up some keepsake sculptures for auctioning off. When's the deadline? Hi Seifert! I think there's always a market for unique and beautiful builds, and yours certainly counts! (Everyone - check out the crazyass transport system Seifert whipped up for zipping around the Burning Life sims - its faaaar too cool) And Olympia, thank you very much for donating your time and your talents! Right now, I'm thinking any auctioning would be done closer to Sept. 12th, the last day of Burning Life. This would give everyone a much needed buffer zone of a few days notice, plus the maximum time for all SL residents to come by and have a peek (and get an idea of what they'd like to bid on) Cristiano Midnight, your hero and mine, is donating banner ad space on Snapzilla, not to mention the nifty Burning Life Snapzilla section he literally pulled out of a hat this afternoon. Thanks everyone, I think this might really take off

I'd also be willing to help script anything for free, if you need it. I don't have much in the way of cash to help...

Thanks Lynn Wanted to bump this myself to let people know that I'm going to be getting the donation box information today from FlipperPA (thank you!!!) and I will be dropping it on the artists at Burning Life that have expressed interest in helping out. I've been getting a lot of great ideas and feedback from people, and I will hopefully have more information very soon on Burning Life auctions and maybe even an event towards the end of the festival...thanks to everyone involved!!!

Since Sunday, the Katrina benefit ad on Snapzilla has been viewed over 40,000 times Hopefully it will help to bring out support for both Burning Life and the fund raising efforts.

Between all the in-world donations kiosks and SLBoutique.com, we've raised over L$400,000 - I'm simply amazed! We're having an event on Thursday; details to follow. -Flip

Thanks for the donation booth Cory, and whoever else worked on it! Mine will be going up today at my (pandastrong's) BL plot. Thanks very much for taking the time and concern to organize this.
