Linden Reliquary?

I've managed to scam a small collection of bears and cards from the Lindens I've met. (Although Teh Linden Hisself didn't give me one at The Elbow Room the other night, I'm not at all bitter.)

And I recently stumbled across the old Governor's Mansion. A permanent fixture, and a much-overlooked part of the Grid's history, apparently.

I thought it might be cool to establish a museum, or reliquary, for the Governing Family. Just as each Linden with a Grid presence is now apparently equipped with a personalized bear and a trading card, each Linden could create one no-copy personal artifact...their own choice of how they'd like to be remembered... to be stored away by LL.

When a Linden left the Grid for Higher Ground (for whatever reason), the "relic" could be placed on permanent display as a reminder of the Lindens Who Had Gone Before.

Just a thought, and yes, I'm on DayQuil.

I think that's a great idea!

Do you mean the Governer's Mansion in Boardman? I saw that one, and wondered who it was intended for, lol.

Wish I had one of the bears. Or that somebody would at least post a picture of one!

Can you ask anyone you see with the last name of Linden for a bear? Cause I sometimes run across someone with that name.

Right, the one in Boardman! Although I was surprised by the architecture. I expected something a little less traditional.

That's been my approach, and I've gradually refined it to exclude all tact or dignity :D

PS I haven't tried peeking under my Pathfinder bear's hat yet. I'm ashamed to do it in public, and scared to do it alone.

I've yet to get a single one :)

Then again, perhaps my approach of yelling 'OI... PRICKBOY!!! GIMME A F*CKING BEAR YOU TWAT!' may need a little refining...

Siggy.

haha, i wouldn't need to refine it like that, Judah, I would automatically assume all tact and dignity will be lost the minute I beg for a bear, lol.

Heh, you speak of the Lindens as if they're going away...

Why don't we keep our museums for things of the past, not things of the present and future? :)

I dont think all the Lindens have made their cards and bears. Last time I asked Phil he had been too busy with 1.6 to make one yet. Last time I asked Char she had made her cute bear, but not a card (this was around easter).

Boardman? Do you mean Clementina? Or was it moved?

Most of the Lindens -- especially Liaisons and the ones who show up inworld more frequently -- have made their bears... if you want to see a GIANT display, and I mean that literally, head to Ambleside and look for Nicole's layout. It should still be there. I think there are also some Residents who have large collections displayed. As for me, I have most of the trading cards but just a FEW of the bears! I need more. :)

Judah duuuuuude even if you're on "DayQuil" that is an idea which makes movies play in my head, which is a tripping-the-virtual-light fantastic thang! Nice that you're checking out history, I feel more Residents should -- at their convenience, of course -- and catch up on the magnificent opuses (opii?) that have been tootled before on the strings of this enharmonic, electric banjo that is the Hendrix-soaked-Morrison-rendition of Second Life.

There ARE some artifacts of Lindens who have come before. Such as the "old man" statue in Natoma, you will find, which is actually even older than the mansion I believe. Oz Spade, eversoastute historian, and myself took a jaunt out there one day. Made by an "oldjohn Linden". Who he is remains a mystery, but he must have been old... and his name was john.

While you're at it, take a fancy to the Welsh community, some very old and notable citizens of SL live there...

Ah, great topic. I dig this shiznit!

the governor's mansion sits atop the mountain in east clemintina. it was built by the original av steller sunshine and donated to the lindens before i was born. the basement was rebuilt by jill linden a few months ago and, i believe, is going to house a linden, or ll museum of sorts.

i used to think of the large asian palace in dore when people said "governor's mansion." the largest structure in boardman, even after the recent fire, is phaedrus' (sp) house and garden.

^ connections, connections! Wonderful. Might I also add that Khamon has a lovely floral sort of tribute at the Governor's Mansion too... hey Khamon, how did that come to be? I'd like to hear the story behind that. :)

Actually Hiro, I've found out a little Linden Labs secret. There are NO in world Lindens. The ones we see ask questions of are merely scripted high prim objects. The next step is to open a superstore selling them off the rack!!

I still just want to know why Haney upped and left so quickly. All visible, and long serving, Linden Liason one minute - vanished without trace the next.

Possibly a falling out within the company - maybe between two Lindens of different company ranks?

oh that. i joined the governor's mansion restoration group back when they needed help putting it back together after pieces began randomly disappearing. jill rebuilt the basement and began stocking the museum and the group wanted to put copies of the cearly creators sign and beta monument in the courtyard. but the aforementioned haney, who was apparently the keeper of linden archival builds, couldn't find them in his inventory. so jake and i built replicas from pictures that people had.

i haven't done anything with the group since. there's not much to do because we're really only supposed to keep the house looking as it always has, not add plantings or modernize things such as adding scripted fish to the aquarium or plantings to the yard. anyway that's the story.
