According to the Community Standards,
Initially each simulator region in Second Life will be given a movie-style rating of either 'PG' or 'M'
and a little farther down, it also states,
A "PG" next to the region name in the lower right hand corner of your screen indicates that you are in a PG region. No use of intense strong language or expletives in chat/IM. No nudity/sexual content in textures or sounds. No content depicting sex, strong violence, or anything else broadly offensive. No open soliciting of chat sex or avatar nudity.
If any of you have ever been to a PG rated movie, the only part of the above that actually applies to PG is “No content depicting sex, strong violence, or anything else broadly offensive”. PG movies routinely have frontal nudity, mild violence, and even strong language. It can be confusing for a person to see PG on a sim and get scolded for saying the word “shit”. That word, and others like it, can be heard every day on TV, in such programs as Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends, etc.
If the Lindens are trying to prevent the total use of any swear word, that will never happen, and I could run around topless all day on a PG sim and be within the MPAA definition of PG.
I totally agree that this is “their” game, and they set the rules. However, maybe a change to a "G" rating would make it easier, and clearer, for everyone to understand what the Lindens are actually trying to accomplish on a PG sim.
If changing the sim rating is not possible, then the Community Standards should be revised to reflect EXACTLY what is forbidden in a PG sim and not left to the whim of anyone with the last name Linden.
