the NDA we "signed"

Yes, I actually read the agreement when I signed up for the beta <g>, and I do take NDA's very seriously, whether they have my actual signature on them or my electronic one via an "accept" button.

Part of the agreement is that we are not to tell anyone that we're beta testing SL.

Does that really mean anyone-anyone, or does it mean reporter-types? The reason I'm asking is because I have a friend who I just know would adore SL and would be an excellent tester, but I'm unsure how to talk to her about it, because of the NDA.

Along the same lines, I'd like to put together a little fansite, but am unsure that this would be allowed by the NDA.

TIA

Actually I noticed a fansite posted in the "links" section right here - it's pretty neat, not much content but looks like there is a community that is getting excited about this - ah if they only knew! I am so pleased to be part of this, I want to learn everything Right Now! :D

We posted pictures from the old grid along with a little write up (www.3dvrweb.com). You really need to ask the advice and get approval from Linden themselves. I would say contact Peter directly through his email and get authorization for anything you plan to do.

It's probably best to check with Peter before posting stuff to the world, but if you want to tell a friend -- especially one who might be a good beta tester -- go ahead.

I'll talk to my friend, then.

And hold off on any webstuffies. I didn't really have anything specific in mind for that yet, with the possible exception of chat (only registered members would be allowed, and those would only be current beta testers & Linden employees). Would there be any interest in that, anyone? Chat (available via web and irc client), for off-world hours?

Talking about Second Life

So far, the responses below regarding the NDA are correct.

We were planning on asking everyone to tell friends about SL, especially if they had the correct computer and a broadband connection.

The NDA limits the information you can discuss, but you can assume that anything posted on public websites is fair game.

On that note, we have noticed that a few of our closed beta users are also Active Worlds users, or ex-Active Worlds users, and have posted short comments in their public forums. While we appreciate the kind words that were used, and we love that you enjoy the world, we honestly don't want to engage in the type of debate that those postings have spawned.

So with that in mind, we respectfully ask that you do NOT post on their forums.

Now, if you have Active Worlds friends who WANT to become Second Life closed beta residents, please have them apply to the program. Please have them mention that they were referred by a current resident. (We scan for that type of recommendation.)

Hope this makes sense,

-Peter
