SL Burnout? No way!

I don't understand posts by people claiming to be "burned out by SL". What is not to love about SL these days? There's more users and L$ than EVER floating around. Prosperity is just around the corner.

Cash is stacking up from the various SL ventures I'm involved with, and a new land trading enterprise just IPO'ed the other day - giving all investors the potential to totally dominate the land market. I'm talking about taking on the big boys of the business!!

The new nOObs are spending more L$ then any previous generation - my shops all around the grid are ringing up record sales each and every day and MetaAdverse allows you to put up Ads anywhere on your land to make a few quick bucks.

With SLexchange.com and SLserver.net you don't even have to own land to be a retailer... just post your goods online and let the cash flow party begin!

Ginko allows any SL resident to earn a fantastic return on their savings balance. Ginko stuff is growing like wild weeds... Nick (the founder) is sure to be one of the richest avatars in SL in no time!

Clubs and tringo spots provide for exceptional product placement opportunities and with the introduction of ROAM, its easier than ever to put up a mall anywhere.

With everything better than ever before, why all the complaining? Just let the customers roll in, the cash stack up, and the carribean vacations play out.

I don't think this is something specific to do with SL. I've played almost every MMO (EQ for many years, since beta in fact) and find that after awhile you just get bored of doing the same things. Variety is good. Take a break and play something else for awhile. Don't bash the game, just give it a break.

I've seen these same posts on every MMO i've played. It doesn't mean that their points are invalid, just that if your bored of doing the same thing all the time it just aggrevates your feeling. Take a rest. Go play another MMO for awhile. that's what I do.

I shoulda posted this in the other thread..ohwell they'll probably read this one too ;).

I agree! In fact, just post nicely that you are gonna be gone so that your friends (if you aren't the whining type, you'll still have some) know that you are on vacation and date back is unknown.

Boredom isn't a good reason to bash the heck out of a game, especially one that you might go back to. It leads to lingering bad feelings.

Burned out on the "make money fast" mentality that you embrace in this post.

Flame on!

I've suffered burnout since February this year. About a week ago my muse came back and beat me over the head soundly with a wooden spoon - she's been trapped under a champagne glass all that time an she was running out of air, and was only freed when I fell and twisted my ankle.

Or perhaps it's just because I'm starting to hear the chorus in my head again.

Bump

Because for all the cries of "chicken little", it's amusing to see who's ready to truly whine so easily.

Yah know, for all the "we need to change this threads or else" I've always done, I've never once even imagined doing anything other than spending lots of time in SL.

Ahhh, you people make me laugh.

I'm not sure you've been in SL long enough to whine with the rest of us:

The ones that don't understand they haven't been enough time in SL to see, no wonder

Have 2 years of it, then come back and talk

Guh, I'm sure people get burned out after 4 hours of being in SL.

Hell, I get burned out after 60 minutes of doing push-ups. I don't go around bragging about it though.

"Oh yeah, you know, after 60 minutes of doing push ups I just feel like I need a break"

Good lord.

I do not think bragging is what is being done. It is simply people sharing their thoughts with others. The forums sort of *are* a place for that to happen. And those who have had burnout *do* love SL. They are just overexerting themselves and need to take a step back. The same thing happens in RL. But no one is bragging about anything. I can't even see where you would be able to apply that word as there is nothing arrogant or boastful about sharing feelings of burnout.

I'm not burned out right now myself. I'm fired and ready to roll, but I have been there. It never changed my feelings about SL or the people in it. I just needed my own vacation and then I was ready to come back refreshed.

What Pendari said, plus it's in some people's nature to analyze their feelings, in order to understand themselves better and know better what they should do.

Plus, like someone said above, it does happen in every game. In everything, really. You can get burned out as a neurosurgeon and still love neurosurgery. Talking it over with others helps.

"Whining" is just another word for "talk that I don't like."

i've suffered from "burnout" myself. i think it takes shape due to various reasons, whether it be a rash of negativity raising it's ugly head or just the costant need for cerebral involvement.. it can happen after any given amount of time.

i find having at least one other online experience to enjoy will help. if i'm feeling more cerebral, i'll either come to the forums here or try to get back to building in-world.. on the other hand, if i'm feeling drained from SL, i can just as easily load up City of Heroes and just go beat the heck out of some baddies without the need to do much thinking.

no matter my level of burnout though, i'll always hold SL as a special place that i enjoy exploring and expressing myself in. i'm sure i'll get to that point again sometime.. last time i was gone for a few months and the next time will probably be the same, maybe less. but i'll always come back to SL.

I was getting a little burned out with SL and I suddenly realized it was because our business was too successful and my parrtner was spending all of her time on it. We hardly had time for each other anymore so we made the obvious decision. We closed the danged business and now it's party time!

Yippee!!!!!!! :D

Susie, i just have to say..awesome! might not have the business, but what good is a business if you're not enjoying it and the company of those you care for?

congrats on a wise decision, maybe not financially, but for your soul. very wise indeed.

I just experienced burn out about a month ago but I have been back in force in the last week. My burnout was because I was getting involved in projects that made pretty good money but didn't have much interest in. After awhile SL started to become more like work than great experience it has been. I know my priorities now, I love to build & script and will continue to do so. SL is very much like life, more money is not always better especially when you have some already.

As I said in the other thread, I dont really get bored of SL itself, I just get bored of the same thing over and over again. So, when I start to feel a bit burnt out, I work on something else. Like sharpening my building skills, or attempt to figure out a script.

SL-Work-o-Holics (come on I know thereare hundreds of us) like myself must mix it up from time to time.
