Olive Experimenter's Be WARNED

Last night, someone in Olive, decided it would be really funny to setup a row of cannons that shot fireworks into Slate all night long.

Perhaps everyone doesn't understand the rules of Olive, so let me state the most abused rule:

It is the responsiblity of the person in OLIVE to ensure that NO OBJECTS leave OLIVE and fall onto ANY OTHER SIM

This is a warning to everyone. I will no longer give you a courtesy yell when you decide knocking towers down upon Slate is a fun thing to do. I will no longer ask you to aim your rockets elsewhere. Instead, since a few, and you guys know who you are, have decided to be childish about this, I will now file an abuse report right off the bat.

I have been nice up to this point, to yell and ask you to stop doing the towers, to stop with the rockets, and to stop with the fireworks. Now though, the time for being nice is through, since people have chosen to keep doing this over and over and over.

If the person who setup the rockets last night would come forward and take a self-imposed ban of 5 days, I would re-consider my position on this. But, until the person that did this is found and punished, or comes forward and imoses a self-penalty, then beware of what you do in Ollive.

Sorry :(

Olive really needs to be a real sandbox, deeper then the other sims, so that real experimenters can experiment without being labeled as griefers, and the real griefers being labeled correctly as griefers.

I made a little script, now posted in the Scripting Library, to help experimenters keep experiments in Olive. There is a bug with it, however. Its more with the linking system actually.

Details:
Because of the destructive nature of crossing sim lines, links may not be preserved in their complete states when moved across them. The effect of this is that when a linked prim, falls across a sim line, and sets itself to derez (with my script), only the parent of the linked set dies. The children are left suspended in midair or shattered on the ground, unlinked from each other.

Ive also seen the same problem, even with delaying the death of the set (with an llSleep()), and with turning the set nonphysical before death. The same thing occurs.

So, if experimenters are willing to reduce the risk of getting complaints from people outside of olive, feel free to use my script, but be warned, a bug in the system reduces its effectiveness by as much as 90%.

Olive also has to be BIGGER.
It looks like everyone goes to olive to work on their massive projects. I'm the same. I need a 40x40 area to test out my maze. Many times though, I cant really find enough space in olive and always end up crowding other guys (hehe Nergal). Sometimes I rez way up in the air when there isnt enough room, but then I don't have enough money to rez the entire maze :p

Oh and if you start working beside me and I warn you that you might not want to set up camp here, dont yell at me when I rez my maze. You were warned :p

Zoey:

Let me explain to you, since you seem to be confused.

YELL is my word for SHOUT. You see I SHOUT my request with the words, Please, Thank You, and You're Welcome whenever necessary. That saves me a trip up the hill. Why should I have to leave what I'm doing to ask anyone to stop doing what they know is wrong. So I send a SHOUT.

Why dont we combine the Green and Brown, Move them to olive, and move olive to Brown, raise Green's land to Olive's hight and leave it as a buffer with a meeting area or something there? This would seperate the sandbox from the rest of the world and keep all but the most errant of scripts / physics toys from reaching Aqua

Or we could just make it like the prelude islands. Which reminds me, is anyone using De Haro or Green? Just asking.

Yeah, I was wondering too, why not just make it a teleport away. The LLers seem to be reluctant to use that mechanism for some reason. I would be using it all over the place! To separate mature sims, battle sims, and sims with billboards allowed!! :)

Living right nextdoor to Bob , I can attest to the often disturbing artifacts from the soundbox. However, I think Bob's situation is a little more unique. Bob has a beautiful log cabin that is wonderfully decorated. It is truly something to see. So Bob often entertains guest there and as a guest sits in his cabin by the fireplace , listening to the sounds of the fire and the sounds of the river ...it is very very cool. So when things interupt this scene it would be very disturbing to him and his many guest.
Since my home has the atmosphere of a bank vault--I spend less time there and as such less times to be disturbed.
I dont think most of the people are purposely trying to distub us in Slate ...things happen and get out of control. But someone who is purposely trying to disturb is wrong.
I think lowering the Sandbox or putting up a wall may help. Or adding another sim north of it when expansion comes might help if they then added a no build area around its perimeter. I don't think moving it would be fair to any new neighbors --its like moving a metro airport next door to you.......Having a telport zone is a gd idea as well but I really feel there is value in having the sandbox "public" . . Some of the coolest folks in SL work their magic there and I like being able to watch easily..(of course I just walk up the hill from Slate)
However, I think Bob derserves not to be unduly distrubed and so some solution of some kind would be warranted.
Meanwhile I am going back to sit on my raft in my spa ---waiting like Donny Darko for a jet engine to fall upon my head.

I think that this point is why the Lindens don't make a sim teleport-only. Speaking for myself, I rarely use teleport, preferring to fly over and check things out first. It's one way to see more of the world and feel more connected, and teleports make it less attractive (IMO) for people to just wander by.

I'm sure most if not all SL residents have stories or pictures of some wacky or amazing thing that has happened in the Sandbox. (Humongous slides...giant chessboards...beautiful builds, etc) These would be much fewer if people couldn't just fly past to see what's up.

OTOH, I definitely think that lowering the Sandbox or otherwise making it harder for things to fall out into the surrounding sims is an excellent idea. Not just because I call all three of the surrounding sims (Rose, Slate, and Teal) home :D but also as a SL resident in general.

yes please put Olive in a hole with mountains around it or take it out of the world and make it teleport only.

and while you're at it...why is it that i can be halfway across Slate at least 150m from the border with Olive yet i hear the "bonk... bonk... bonk... bonk... bonk..." of physical objects anywhere in Olive as though it's inside my ear? i can't hear any other game sounds that far away. it's just noise pollution.

I'd also like to complain about the rocket launchers, while it may be amusing to amass an arsenal of missiles, rockets, or fireworks than "the other guy" please keep in mind that launching them ALL AT ONCE puts some severe strain on the servers and the player's connections.

Even saying that you don't have to launch them every night either. While in Gray we do like our flying objects missiles are getting to be an annoyance.

Sinking the middle 90% of Olive down to nearly sea level, creating something like a giant, square lunar crater, would keep a lot of Olive's more ... rambunctious ... happenings in Olive, and wouldn't disturb the landscape of the adjacent sims. Sort of like: _/\___/\_ with Olive in the middle.
