Ok, I thought I knew how vBulletin liked to configure things, and I know I've scoured the User Control Panel but I still can't figure this out, so:
Is there any way for me to specify, client-side, that I'd like this board to display posts in a thread in ascending order by date? By that I mean having newer posts appear at the bottom of the thread instead of at the top. I'm going nuts trying to read whole threads from the bottom up!

Good Question! It never occured to me that I might be able to change that. It drives me nuts too, LOL Maybe the administrator can change that? I don't know.... I'll keep an eye out here, hopefully someone will give us the answer Ingie

Please add my vote to getting/finding this feature. It really is annoying to have to start at the bottom and read up on these threads.

Yes! I hate seeing everyone's replies before the actual post, especially when there's a lot and you have to scroll way down, or click to the next page! maki

And here I thought I was losing my mind, missing something. I was looking for a way to change it from descending to ascending as well. =/

This must be changed by the admins, in case you Lindens are having troubles figuring it out(or are just ignoring us ) it should work by doing this: Admin CP >> vBulletin Options >> Thread display options >> Order of posts within a thread >> Newest first. This should change every thread's order to FIRST post FIRST - apparently some people like seeing the latest post first, I suppose, if you're up-to-date on the rest of the thread. maki

OK, order has been changed.
(Now waiting for the first post saying that the "other" way was better....)
Given my preference, we would be able to show both via a happy little icon on the top of the thread, or editing it in the user preferences. I'll look into vbulletin hacks for this.

lol, I don't like it the other way, but I must say I was confused when I went to look for the new reply and saw Cambridge's post on top. The only hack about this I saw mentioned was the ability to set only certain forums or threads to be in one order or the other, would be a nice feature to be able to change em on your own though if you choose. maki

Let me be the first......

to say I liked the old way better !
Now I have to scroll to the bottom to read a new post in a thread I've been following, instead of it being right at the top.
Way to go guys.........
Now in a multi-page thread, will I have to go to the next page to see the latest post ? I need to check that out.
Tracey

If you look in the top left, right above the first post, there is a link: "Go to first unread post." This should solve your problem.
Another method is on the page where it lists all the threads, on the far right of the thread, after is says who made the last post, is an arrow pointing right. Clicking this will take you directly to the last post.

From: someone If you look in the top left, right above the first post, there is a link: "Go to first unread post." This should solve your problem. This works only if you use the SAME computer every time you look at the forms....if you use a different computer, or one that has cookies disabled, your back to hunting through the post to find the last one you read. From: someone Another method is on the page where it lists all the threads, on the far right of the thread, after is says who made the last post, is an arrow pointing right. Clicking this will take you directly to the last post. This works only if you have read all of the posts up to the last one. If there are 5 or 6 posts that you have not read, again you still have to hunt through the post to find where you left off. Tracey

From: someone This works only if you have read all of the posts up to the last one. If there are 5 or 6 posts that you have not read, again you still have to hunt through the post to find where you left off. If there are 5 or 6 posts you have not read then you will have to hunt no matter which way it is organised. If you have kept up on all the threads, visit the boards very frequently, and the board isn't too active then the most recent first format makes sense. Even then I don't like it though. In any other case first post first is more intuitive. We read naturally from top to bottom, front to back. I start at the top of a post and read to the bottom of it, it isn't natural to then scroll up to the top of the post before that. Really though it is a matter of preference, style and time spent on the boards. The best solution would be to allow it to be set in the user control panel, but I don't think that can be done. If anyone knows different please step forward.

the only thing I don't like about it now is having to scroll all the way back up to get to the "Second Life Forums" and "[specific forum]" links. Could those be duplicated at the bottom of the pages? <G>

Last Thread/ Next Thread
01-25-2003 14:22
Hehe. Trying to wrap my head around pressing 'Last Thread' (with a left arrow, too ) to move to what seems like a Next Thread to me (Reading top to bottom, newest to oldest ) I'll go see if there is an option to switch them
