negs arent fair!

Negs suck! Dont you all agree? Most the time ther just miss understandings, but then you forgot the people who neged you so they cant rerate you. But all who are in the same neg problem and have alot of negs, try to apologize about the problem you made. Although some people are to proud to forgive and it get's desturbing. But all who have givin other players negs IM them and see what they realy were doing and work it out.

The ratings system is broken, but it won't be fixed in the future.

In any case, the best you can do is try to set the tone that neg ratings don't really matter. Because they shouldn't.

They're negative, to reflect that you did something negative.

Now just to be totally clear here, what we have in not a little misunderstanding. You didn't accidentally bump into me at an event.

What you did was deliberately go down and litter our groups store with junk so as to make it unusable, dare I say with malice of forethought.

This being a place created solely for new players to get inexpensive and usefull items to help them get started in SL makes this a lil worse.

That it was done in retaliation - due to our not really approving of people who take these free/$1 items and jack the price up by hundreds of dollars for the sole purpose of exploiting other players - and we're bordering on dispicable here.

And add to that that your excuse for this action was 'it was a job - nothing personal' makes you mercenary to boot.

Now you may have said a half-assed sorry after the fact (maybe after you were paid), but when I came on after work there was still an unlinked vehicle of some kind littering half the store, and particle spewing sticks around the place...

You behaved in a negative manner - and as such there are things I can do to show my dissaproval... One of those is to rate you based what you've shown me.

This is not a matter of being 'proud' - it's a matter of you being an ass.

So tell me, are you sorry because you were rated, or are you sorry because of what you did?

The fact that you were so incredulous that someone had rated you makes me suspect the former.

If this is the line of work you have chosen in SL, my advice would be to get used to this - it's going to happen a lot.

Its true a lot of players use neg ratings like its going out of style. I just prefer to leave it as a last resort. Back whenI was new I would neg rate but now instead I just remove ratings I've given them if they have some from me.

Those who've given a high rate of negatives can be like the ones on given such. One given such are viewed as bad people. Those who give a lot of them can be viewed as immature just as much as the ones receiving them. They don't think before they act, so to speak. It swings both ways in the negaverse.

Giving a couple is understandable but going nuts with them is another issue entirely.

To me, negative rating is like punching someone in the stomach.

I reserve it for something pretty serious like:

- Someone stealing something significant from you

- Someone breaking a deal causing you big headaches, with no worthy extenuating circumstances

- Some kind of hate mongering

- Wonton destructive / exploitive behavior



I like the analogy because it matches up well with its RL counterpart:

- If you punch someone in the stomach, you can expect to be punched back.

- It will cause some people physical pain (ie hurts their feelings if they are perhaps even somewhat of a sensitive person)

- Also, as in RL, if you go around punching people in the stomach every time you feel angry... you will find you get beat up a lot, and get in some trouble / labeled with the community.

(not referring to anyone here, just a general philosophy)

When someone pisses me off, I act friendly towards them, open up the ratings box, make sure no items of mine are around, then teleport home and neg their a$$. I call it a neg-n-run.

Personally I find neg ratings useless. If someone is deliberatly giving me a hard time, he probably isn't going to care if I neg rate him. He may be proud of his (or her) rap sheet.
If someone accidentally annoys me- be it through ignorance, a misunderstanding, a NooBlunder etc.- a neg rating is only going to alienate the other person and escalate hostility.

I don't take other people's neg rap sheet too seriously, since so many neg ratings are given out of spite or for fun. I predict that future versions of sl may not have them at all.

the rating system is a vital tool in making second life function. i love them, you love them, and so does aunt sally!

if you have been neg rated, you earned it because you were probably having a negative affect on someone elses second life. all ratings are deserved, that's how the rating system works.

I've only given one Neg rating during my stint in SL, and it was well earned. It was practically begged for, in fact.

Had you, Raol, been present when I went to the GNU Wave Architects store and saw all the trash and particles you'd left behind after your clever little griefing, I would have gladly given out my second and third neg rating, to you. I deleted your crap before I remembered I could use it to neg rate you, or I would have done it.

I was neg rated all 3 for someone buying a item and putting a box onto his head.

I explained it to him and he took them away... But could have been annoying if that kept happening.

Much like pos ratings..Means nothing except time spent rate mining or griefing.
