Anyone else find that since starting in Secondlife their dreams have become even more messed up than they used to be?
Infact.. when I first started playing I had a few definite Second life dreams- that is, based in secondlife.. but over the last few weeks.. I cant tell anymore! its like a weird mix of SL and RL.. meeting SL friends and RL friends in the same place. its really weird, I have always been the type that remembers dreams.. but these are getting so muddled up that I cant make heads or tails of them anymore..
I cant even tell if Im imagining 3D graphics or Realness..

I really dont have a solid example of a dream I had, exept one muddled up mess were I figured out that there was a door on the edge of Willows Sim.. that led of all places to a ballet concert, starring the freakyest children ever! Willows sim was obviosly SL, but the ballet was most likely real..

I also read somewhere that if you didnt dream you would go insane.. so are we supplementing or dreaming by being SL Residents? it is a kind of Lucid dream reality after all, we can fly, rez things from nothing.. own a huge nightclubs.. do anything be anyone..

Some cultures consider speaking about dreams as a sign of maddness.. I consider it a sign of being mega bored in work :p

anyone else get this?

I would like to answer a yes to the dreams of SL. Not only do I find myself dreaming of being in the SL world but also of building and even script code.

Perhaps it is the result of being activily engaged in this world, or perhaps the fact that your avatar in SL is a direct representation of yourself perhaps as your alter-ego. I think that perhaps due to this attachment the dreaming works like any otehr dream that gets associated with events in RL such as those about family, current events and even current tragedies.

I have never had this happen with any other platform or game out there. Sl is the first time I have had dreams revolving around a specific environment. I think that perhaps it is such an in-depth world with such abilities it trancends the reality that we are used to, perhaps it is a glimpse of a reality we dream of or once had...

But here is the worst part about it (not really, just funny)
I find myself counting prims in RL objects, I was mowing my lawn and saw a plane fly overhead and thought to myself "looks like Cubey is testing another plane" and that is where i had a "whoa!" moment, almost like one of those twisty mind mess movies like the Matrix or the 13th Floor where reality is not really what it seems.

Sorry if I rambled on too long :)

Yeah I dream that one day SL will end and I can get back to a normal life.

Mine are no more or less freaky than normal, but there is a definite SL component and often the mixing of SL and RL.

I can attest that prim counting goes on regularly, especially in the city with all the big, blocky buildings. If the dreams are supposed to keep you from going insance, I don't think it's working.

1,2,3 prims.....4, 5, 6....oh, pardon me....7, 8, 9.....

My dreams have always been messed-up, after SL even moreso, which is just great because I'm taking this further and further towards the outer expanses (I won't say "limits" because it's not true) of my imagination.

On a serious level, I do think there's some merit about the higher levels of human consciousness in all of this, or tapping into some collective wonder.

You may have heard SL described as a "shared hallucination" and I enjoy that something totally weird can be made outta your imagination, even if it's just retinting clothes (as I tend to do) and you can show it to someone else and they will pretty much see what you see, technical difficulties aside.

Then you can say "THERE IT IS!" :D

Torley,

I completely agree with the aspect of higher conciousness. Reminds me of that one movie, "Dragonfly" (I think) that involved the ladder of consciousness that exists, each rung a different level with different states of being.

Also reminds me of that one experiment, that is going on called the Global Consciousness Project, it uses a series of white noise/random pattern generating computers that as a collective on average do not sync, but during times that a large population is exposed to an event , these machines will sync the random noise without user input.

There is also another experiment going on that involves using bots to scoure the internet news sites, general forums and such. These bots have an onboard lexicon that picks out words and phrases. Once the data is collected (close to a few million data points) the data is run through a series of Translations. Some of these tanslations are done by people as they use the human emotion factors of words and phrases to separate the data. These translations are often surreal or abstract but when looked at in hindsight, they often have this claravoyant ability with the future by using subtle language shifts in everyday speech.

Mike, that type of thing fascinates me intensely. I'll have to look it up... Global Consciousness Project. Think I heard a media blurb but this deserves deeper digging! Thanxies.

Mike, if you know a website where those linguistic forum abstracts are available, I'd love to see them.

As for dreaming, I actually found SL via dreamviews.com, a lucid dreaming forum. In the first six months or so, I definitely had muddled SL/RL dreams, but I don't recall any recently. I haven't had any lucid dreams lately, either, and most of the SL/RL dreams were semi-lucid.

I think they've mentioned this on Coasttocoastam.com several times.

I don't think I've dreamed of SL yet, but I've dreamed of Starcraft many times.

data would say, 'fascinating...' :)

i've dreamt of sl, and i only had four or five days inside. (sigh... s'why i spend all my time in the forums now, until i get another sl-worthy computer to play...)

it was a rather 'rl' dream, where i met some 'familiar strangers' and then wandered into a house that caused perceptions to be altered... obviously, i was dreaming of the 'schizo house' that i never got around to visiting whilst inside, but it was a day or two before i realized what the dream actually was. :)

i suppose the circle will not be complete until someone opens an sl 'sensory deprivation tank' facility... talk about inside-out!! :)

p.s. - 'starcraft'?? :) were you -really small-? :) don't know that i could dream of that, though that human 'hold the fort down' level is fun/intense, in kindova 'starship troopers' kinda way. i have also had (obviously:) myst-y/riven-ish dreams... even wander the environments in my dreams. 'myth II', i've dreamt about bomb-throwing dwarves... :) and i suppose 'fly', 'falcon' and any other flight sims too, though flying in general. (paging dr. freud...:)

now how about dreams where you're being eating by a big, pixelated duck-ish looking 'dragon', ala atari 2600 'adventure'?? :) hopefully, i'm the only one... rather startling, that one.

yes, and I'm digging it, I wonder if we are programming our subconcious minds to be like our avatars, strong, invincible, stylish whatever your trip is.

I fly in dreams all the time so the subconcious can possibly connect to the dreamlike qualities of SL and thus be influenced maybe i dunno.

No, I had an overhead view and was commanding my zergling armies. When the Protoss started kicking ass, I'd invent new kinds of zergs to counterattack.

Flying used to be a regular feature of my dreams. Since SL I don't think it happens anymore. One dream fulfilled, I suppose.

Here is the website you requested:

www.halfpasthuman.com

Please note, a lot of the content is subscriber based as it takes a lot of money and resources to pour through the data. Here is a website that gets some of those reports and breaks them down:
www.urbansurvival.com

Really nifty stuff. On another note, the company behind the project has actually submitted to the DOD to see if they are interested in the technology as it has had a few interesting hits. I would also like to note that other countries are working on their own version of this technology.

This type of stuff facinates me to no end. One of the most interesting things that come out of these reports are not only do they see human aspects but also environmental events as well such as volcanic activity. THe technology they are using is like looking through a distorted lens covered in vaseline toward the future but the interesting part is that the aspects of the reports are if anything, really good indicators of what may happen. But they are not always right as the future is always changing as we go about our daily lives, nothing is written so that fact makes it even more difficult to "read"

nyak - no doubt... but that's still a pretty pic. :)

y'know, there's a whole thing about 'programming yourself' thru dreamstate... as you're falling asleep, you can help change your own life by meditating, sort of mantra-ing messages, like "you will quit smoking," etc... i've found it helps to picture big words floating up to you.

has something to do with that alpha/beta-state crossover; your subconscious is susceptible to 'programming' at that moment. can also be done positively through states of hypnosis... also negatively through state of torture.

crazy playground, the brain... make sure you don't bang your skull on the junglegym. :)

One day several months ago, I was riding home from work on my mountain bike and struck a car door when a disgruntled passenger decided to walk. I was thrown 50 feet in the air and landed quite hard, although my injuries were minor, I laid on the road for several minutes, stunned.

Someone asked me "What's your name". I erroneously replied "Weedy Herbst"
