SL doesn't have much in the way of underground structures, BUT, we do have the odd construction going on well out of reach of average players.
And some of these places are just so darned interesting. So, I'm starting a Skylunking group. When I get back from work tonight I will finalize a multitool specifically for this purpose to provide to my group. We will locate skyboxes, catalog them in a loose database, and perhaps enjoy them as they were meant to be ab/used.
Anyone already doing this? I know the the Herald has some reports onthis, but are there any roving groups of Skylunkers exploring the seedy upperworld of SL? If so, what tool/rules are you using?
IM me if you're interested in joining.

Interesting! I'd recommend maxing out your draw distance, if your rig can handle it. I'd also recommend something like Enabran Templar's SiegeBot -- something that will allow you to fly gracefully at higher-than-normal elevations. There's some interesting stuff in the air -- abandoned prims (one extra 0 will send it skyrocketing), huge platforms, control consoles... Don't forget to wear your mining gear.

As long as you keep your explorations below 1 million meters, you should be OK. The Lindens will not allow you to visit the floating arcologies above the 1.25 million meter mark, however. That's where SL II is being constructed, and you've got to have an entre. ....

Yeah. I don't have the patience to drag people up to the Arcos. But within the 4km rezzing limit. We well likely be visiting one or two pre-selected boxes, with people scouting around for more. I have a hover/flight boost that I'm thinking of making slavable to a master pack. Combine a custom version of my follow widget and I can have all kinds of fun.

This is why, at my currenty place, I don't yet have poseballs.
That many 0-listens makes me nervous. I'd be willing code up a less laggy poseball, something the listen on a high channel, to a single controller..... but who'd use it?

Been there, done that. Feel free to check out my two sky structures, one for chess, Mahjong and building in peace; the other for ... relaxing, yes. Relaxing.

I think I spent most of my first six months in SL doing precisely this activity! I loved sky buildings, and when I wasn't working on my own sky apartment, I was searching the skies for neat, hidden builds.
Also, I keep my laboratory in Kaili in the sky, so feel free and poke around (though I cleaned up the other day so there's nothing very interesting laying around right now).

It sounds fun, but keep in mind that some of those skyboxes are up there for a reason. Be prepared to trip a few security scripts.

NEW? Its one of the first forms of entertainment I discovered in SL From: Teeny Leviathan It sounds fun, but keep in mind that some of those skyboxes are up there for a reason. Be prepared to trip a few security scripts. Yeah, but all they do is bounce you around a bit, not much worse then an afternoon in a sandbox.

From: ArchTx Edo 4km will a carbon rod or jet pack take you that high? I have not been able to fly a prim up past 750m +/- Depends on how you use the prim. You can only edit the prim to 700 meters or so, you can fly a physics-enabled scripted prim to 4096 meters and then it goes POOF. However, a properly scripted attachment prim can take you up pretty much forever. People have been to altitides in the millions of meters.
