Hi, all! I wanted to first say thank you, again, for all the input you added in the last post where I was frantically trying to put together an aquarium. Everything has gone great so far! We had four tetras and two dwarf frogs at the time I got the aquarium.
About a week later, we got two mollies. One is this pure white molly, I don't know what it's called exactly, and the other is a dalmation molly. That was over three weeks ago.
Up until this morning, everything has been going great!! But when I woke up, I saw that the white molly is hanging around at the top of the tank--she's certainly alive, but there's definitely something wrong. It looks like there's a red bruise inside her on her right side; it's about the size of my pinky nail (small). Her fins, too, seem to have like, some sort of collections on them, also white like her color. I don't know what happened!
Then, I came back from classes this afternoon, and now the male dalmation molly is acting strangely! He is hanging in the corner of the tank, practically sitting on the ground. Though again, he is definitely alive. But I know something is wrong.
The tetras have been unkind to the white molly, they're always swooping at her. But I'm not sure if that could actually hurt the white molly because she's twice as large as the rest and the tetras never ganged up on her or seemed violently aggressive. And the dalmation molly always got along fine with everyone. I just can't explain what's happening right now because this is my first aquarium, so does anyone have any suggestions or explanations for what is happening? I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst right now, so aside from telling me to do that, any information you have for me would be awesome. Thanks!

The White that you describe on her fins sounds like ich. Ick/Ich is always present in your tank and in your fish. Stress is the main cause of Ick/Ich breakout. If the other fish have been attacking her, it probably weakened and stressed her.
There is a product called Quick Cure by Aquarium Products that is very successful.
You should probably use this for a full 14 days. Usually it does not take that long to cure it though. It is very important that you treat with the Ick/Ich medication for a full 14 days. The bottle says that it can cure Ick/Ich in 2 days, but it is best to continue the treatment for the 14 days. Ick/Ich is a parasite. The parasite lays eggs in your tank continually. The eggs that are laid will continue to hatch out for a full 14 days. By using Quick Cure for the full 14 days you will kill any of the newly hatched Ick/Ich parasites. This is the only real way to cure the Ick/Ich for good. NOTE: When you have any fish in the Tetra group you use one half (1/2) the dosage of this medication.
There are other medications, one CopperSafe by Mardel Laboratories. If you use no other medication in addition to the Quick Cure use CopperSafe. It is a very good all around treatment and can be kept in there for a month. CopperSafe treats for the following diseases: Ick/Ich, Flukes, Anchor Worms, Velvet/Protozoan Diseases and other freshwater parasites. In addition to treating these diseases it also aids in stimulating the appetite in sick fish.
You can use CopperSafe for the full 30 days. This will also aid in eradicating the last of the hatching parasites.
I am posting a pic of what ich looks like. I hope this helps. Best of luck and I hope they recover. BTW - I just went through this as my beta got very stressed by the heat when we had no AC during the hurricane - I gave him this treatment and he pulled through just fine (he is 2 years old) - pretty old for a fish.

um, I hope you arent terribly attachted to the fish that are in distress. Rose is right, you need to medicate the tank. Ick is little white spots all over the fishs body. If its just white film, its a fungus or something as horrid.
If the other fish have been attacking, it would be surprising if they survived. Tetras and mollys like different water ph, tetras on the acid side, mollies dont like that. Tetras are longer lived and more aggressive and hardy than mollies. Mollies are pretty tho, but really deserve a tank onto themselves.
Make sure the tank water is the right temp, use some aquarium salt and some product to help coat the fish's bodies, if you have not already, along with some medication.
If you find yourself needing to replace any fish, stick with tetras, or one family type of fish, and remember tetras are schooling fish, get few so they can school, it will make them happy.
You may want to do a partial water change after the medication time is up.
What sort of tetras do you have?

If you have a test kit get us some numbers.
PH nitrites ammonia temp
Do you have a heater and with the fall temp has it been fluctuating? that will trigger ick.
I went to bed with my cichlid tank at 78 and woke up this morning the first cold morning so far and it was at 69. May need to tweak the heater a bit.
Heh maybe we should form a SL aquarium society?

Heh maybe we should form a SL aquarium society? Cool idea! We could all replicate our aquariums in SL & share information about our RL fish.
