If these questions are in another post, I do apologize, as well as if I've posted in the wrong place...

Brand new to the game! I've gotten my avatar the way I want it, well, within reason. :) I'm really ready to start creating!! :) Here are my problems.

1. I've created several primitives that I've stretched, twisted, resized, etc. I use the Edit window and I'll either change the numbers manually or I'll use the arrows to reshape. Several times my object has disappeared into thin air. $10 for a primitive is not that much but this could add up! :) Are my objects really somewhere so that I just can't see them, or are they really gone?

2. I bought a nice piece of land on a beautiful little lake. I put one of the preset houses down (for now). When I am standing in my house creating objects, depending on where I put the object down, I get the message that the owner of the land doesn't allow creation, or something to that effect. I move it over a bit and there's not a problem. To the best of my knowledge, I've claimed up all the land under my house....and I didn't see any shoes sticking out from under the house either. :)

3. I was resizing an object and got the error message someone else was already editing the object (or something to that effect).

4. Finally (yes, I'm almost done), how do I delete/destroy an item to get my money back?

Thanks for any help for this newbie! :)

Hi Marie,

Several answers:

The 'shooting up into thin air' behavior seems common to this build (new today)... so we're lookin...

The center of the object you are placing (you can see the center in edit mode as the place where the movement arrows intersect) must be over your land. Does anyone own the land right next to you? If so and the object center is over it, that could explain your problem. If not, it sounds like a bug - let me know.

To delete something, select the object and press the delete key. When you delete objects you get back the money that was spent in creating them.

Hope you have fun!

also, the object going poof should give you your money back since it is acting like a delete.

Thanks Philip and Nada for the replies. Tonight I'm going to lift my house up and make sure there are no spots of land I didn't claim.

Who knows, I may find that witch under there yet! :)

Nada, when my objects poof, the money stays the same.

Thanks for the help!

Just so you know, I had the same thing happen to me -- was moving an object and *poof* it was gone -- and I didn't get the $$ back.

Unfortunately, the object in question for me was my *house* <sob>

I'm convinced that it's floating around the void somewhere -- probably having a tea party with your missing object now!

(I don't use the right-click Move any more -- I'll only use the right-click Edit - Position, because it's easier to control)

It is possible to try to make a primitive with shape parameters that produces an object with impossible physical properties (such as negative mass). These objects will go "poof" and disappear, however now (as of the latest release) you should see a relevant message on the screen, and your $ should be correctly refunded.

As to Shebang's entire house disappearing... I don't know what could have caused that, but if anyone can give us a reproducable case where a multi-primitive object (linked) disappears in a "poof" I'm sure we can fix it.

Wow Shebang! I'm so sorry about your house! And mine was only a little box. You got bigger things to worry about. :(

Andrew, thanks, and I guess I could have provided a little more detail on my objects that go poof in the night. Shebang said she was moving her object. I don't recall if I was resizing or moving and if it happened on changing the x, y or z parameters. I will try it again tonight and see. However, everytime it did happen, all of my parameters disappeared-all the parameter boxes were blank. I had a great deal of lag last night and it could very well be that in my attempt to change a number, it inadvertantly went into one of those impossible negatives you referred to, without my realizing it.

But, it will give me something to look at. Maybe I can reproduce it as well.

Thanks again for the help!

Is it just me, or does it make better sense to not let the UI configure an object with impossible boundries? I can imagine the grief that would occur if lots of work went into an object and because of a mistake it gets deleted.

I guess the lesson is to link everything together and take copies?

Last night I had no objects to poof, but my experiment objects still do not return my money, whether I use the delete key or right click and delete. Just thought you'd like to know. :)
