SL Work in SL

Am I the only person who can't seem to find anyone in SL who is willing to work for a decent wage? I once tried to hire an event manager but everyone seemed to want me to follow THEIR schedule instead of my event schedule. It seemed as if their aunt Mary was always paying them an unscheduled visit or their grandparents were dying right and left.

It was awhile ago but I wanted to have clogdancing events and I was offering 500L for a 2 hour event with a raise to 1000L if they did a good job.

Well.... yeah, you should be able to expect an event host to be able to work when you want them to. But, on the same token, you also have to understand that things do come up. And if your Aunt Mary pays you an unexpected visit, usually you can say "oh, I have to go to work, I'm sorry." But this is not the usual situation. How do you explain to your dear, old, technophobic aunt mary that the job you have to do is in a video game? And what if she wants to see it? I personally would rather gouge out my eyeballs than show a relative this game. They'd see the escorts and strippers and whatnot, and have no comprehension of how to deal with it.

No offense Susie but you need to realize that linden dollars are worthless. If you want serious work you need to pay serious money. I realize that event hosting isn't exactly programming but I wouldn't work for L$500 / hour - especially when someone offered me L$5000 / hour two days ago :)

$L500 for a 2 hr event..... that is equivalent to about $1 USD an hour. Unless someone was really hyped up and enjoying the job you want them to do, they'd likely just take a couple of their RL dollars and go buy that amount of Linden dollars, if they know how. I imagine it depends on who you ask to do it, but I personally wouldn't put my own agenda aside and go work on someone else's agenda for that amount of money.

Hey I'm not badmouthing you at all btw. I'm just pointing out why you might have trouble hiring someone at this rate. I may spend 8-12 hrs on one of my builds that sells for $L500-1000, but that item can be sold repeatedly (if it turns out to be a good one) so that makes my time potentially more valuable doing my own thing, not to mention I usually enjoy whatever it is ~I~ choose to work on. To be honest, working on what other people ask for isn't much fun at all. That's why I stopped doing commissions. People want your time but they don't want to pay enough to make it worth your while.. to do this thing you just aren't into at all.

Not bad-mouthing you, either, but I agree. Ridiculous though I am about scrounging every dollar to support my Island-land-lease habit on a basic membership - and though I'm a terrific host - hosting someone else's thing for $500 an hour, well, I just can't make myself do that.

The increase to $1000 is a good idea, though. Especially, if it were a repeating thing, you could state that the first time was sort of an audition. And that the host who did real well would then be hired on and get $1000 every time.

What's worse is getting offered to run someone else's Slingo or whatever for "tips." Danged if I'd spend a couple of hours hosting someone else's thing and have to beg for tips, too, instead of being paid.

So thinking further on it, that leaves you with 2 options. You can run your events yourself (for now atleast until you feel you're successful enough to afford paying hired help enough to get them in), or you can go to GOM/IGE and toss in about $8 USD to pay someone for 2 hrs work. That still isn't much in RL dollars but I think it'd make your offer more inticing.... for those who don't really have any other "occupation" in SL. At $L2k/2hrs I still don't think you'll get someone who is already established in their own "thang" because they already have their own agenda.
