how to create your own country??

i saw this long time ago a book called like this and i was wondering ... could it be possible to create a new RL country with its own laws?? or no laws at all maybe? could i decide that this or this land i want to remove from the country i am living in and proclame it as an autonomous country?

could peoples crate place where the laws are what they want ?

internet seems not to be considered as a virtual lawless country by the world so maybe create a country for this might be a solution??

can someone enlight me or tell me if this book still exist?

There's really only one way to found a country:

1. Get a bigger army than someone else.

Well..pretty much all land on the earth is claimed by one country or another, so if you suddenly declared it independent, they would send in the troops to quell the rebellion, or else just ignore you and continue to call it their land and to enforce their laws. However, if we survive as a species long enough to privatize space travel, expect every astral lump out there to be claimed by corporations asap.

But I would like my own country. Nudity would be the norm, cept when frying bacon (OUCH!), and everyone would live and work in ways that they found harmonious, with openness and respect enforced by brutal laws involving impalement. And where I would be served, as befitting my status as Supreme Founder, by the 10 most lovely and talented women in my domain, and if anyone dared to cross me or question my benevolent rule, I would...err..umm..

What I mean is..everyone would be happy! (Or else!)

Well, you could try building a floating island in international waters. But if your laws drastically conflict with any other country, you better have a bigger army than theirs.

Ok, the first thing you do when you make a country?

Keep other people out!

Get control of those borders!

I just advise getting some land at the south pole and starting one there, seems to be free at the moment.

Also look up the Republic of Minerva.. founded out in the Pacific by a bunch of libertarians, it was taken over by -- of all places -- Tonga.

I've heard of campaigns to start global nations - basically get enough people to sign a charter, and you don't need land.

well yeah i suppose many countries would annex you , disguising it as a purification (david's island was forceing nudity wich wasnt acceptable)

what about an offshore platform with a good nuke at its base?? is it enough to prevent an invasion?

Fundamentalist, polygamous Mormons are always trying to do that in Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. Declare the independence of their ranch or small town from the United States, after a court issues a warrant for violating family codes, etc. Local authorities, citing precedent from the Whisky Rebellion and the American Civil War, get the necessary writs and send out the state troopers, local feds, and in some cases, the Gaurd.

Maybe a more interesting question: sovereignty and independence for a virtual nation existing only online. There have been some experiments in the past.
