If you're still using Win 98, then good news for you. MS changed it's mind about cutting off support, they moved the cut-off date to June 30, 2006.

You know, thats even more irrellivant than it normally would be.

SecondLife requires windows >2000

EDIT: Haha! I cleverlly avoided the Linux pun :P

heh.

The primary reason why I don't gripe about bugs is because I'm running SL on win98, so I figure that whatever problems occur, it's probably my fault.

Call me an advanced Beta tester. :D

When I get money in RL again, I'll build/upgrade a system to run second life specifically, and it'll run 2000, or XP. I'm not sure which at the moment.

I ran SL on 98 for a few months. Worked great. I'm now using XP and theres very little difference. 98 crashed now and then, XP doesnt.

I figured I'd try it, and it worked. Beats me on the how. It's a little pokey now and again, but that's probably because my system is a duron system, and it slows down on occasion.

The next upgrade for me will probably be a faster cpu, a hard drive cage for a win98 system (for those games I play that refuse to run on NT/2000/XP), and an upgrade to 2000.

I'm running on Win98SE with no problems (at least, none beyond the normal Win98 ones!). It took a few driver upgrades, though.

Did any of you have to do anything special to get your Win98 machine to run Secondlife? I have a friend who is very interested in SL but has Windows 98. I believe her computer hardware is capable of running SL at a playable level.

Well Lance, you may think it's irrelevant, but I know a lot of people who still use it, and for them, this just might be good news. But hey, thank you for your smarminess. Lord knows I just love thoughtless witless sarcasm.
