If one person is on vacation, so that halt any services of a business? Shouldn't there be a back up plan to prevent one person from halting business services?

In my experiences in Corporate America, I have always been required to develop a backup plan when I went on vacation so that my customers/clients were no affected by my vacation time or illness. I thought this was standard business operating procedure, evidently it is not.

Discuss...

I think it depends on the line of work. Say, for example, I was a self-employed male prostitute. By nature, there is noone that can serve as backup for me and my product. ;)

On a slightly more serious note, I do think it comes down to the size of the company and the available staffing. A lot of small companies simply don't have the means to provide for redundancies such as backup for a position.

An interesting idea - I think in most cases when someone in SL goes on vacation their Business is left to the automated vendors and Customer service is on hold.

Would hope that whoever it is put on their profile "on vacation" - or even better "on vacation till "x", contact "y" or email "z" with concerns.

I won't comment on business strategy, but I know that whenever I am away for a day or two, I come back to find a mailbox stuffed full of tasks and projects that nobody in my department had the time or skill to accomplish. While this makes me feel needed in excess of what my modest level of compensation would indicate, it leaves me somewhat concerned about what might happen if I were ever to do something drastic such as, oh, taking a real vacation.

My problem (since I never can get a day off) is the opposite:

I really hate people who come back from vacations "all recharged" and ready to put in 110% and all that motivated crap...Somehow they think that since they are rested, everyone else should work harder with them (ex. my boss just got back from San Diego...and boy is he on a tear...the little Napoleon wanna-be).

Only if the monkey knows what he's doing, or if he's in a circus.

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!
