Doesn't seem likely unless the info on the SL Forums is made open-access to nonResis too.

Google search is available on the LSL wiki, once you get a result using the regular search, at the bottom of the search results there is a option to search either the www or the lsl wiki. _____________________

I just noticed that we can google search the LSL wiki, I don't guess there's a place to google search the forums I haven't seen yet? The SL forums are not able to be spidered by a search engine because they require login. The posts in the SLuniverse.com forums, as well as the SLU Knowledge Base are searchable via Google - using SLuniverse as one of the keywords brings up content from the site, for example: http://www.google.com/search?q=sluniverse+paint+shop+pro&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&start=10&sa=N&filter=0 _____________________

The LSL wiki that is at secondlife.com/badgeo - is that publicly viewable? Might there be some way around this? Some way to search the forums other than what we have would be wonderful, because the search system we have now sucks. _____________________

well foo!
I am always logged in, the system never bugs me about logging in. The wiki is not editable by people who are not logged in is it? Is there no way to have google index a secured area and show results only to those who have access to the secured area? _____________________

well foo! Is there no way to have google index a secured area and show results only to those who have access to the secured area? No there is not, unfortunately. I am not sure what authentication system the wikis use, I have not used any of them to edit. You are always logged in because the forums use a cookie to keep you logged in. It does actually log you in when you come to the site. More sensitive areas, like the account section, will often make you sign in again. _____________________

Yes the LSL wiki is publicly accessible, which is why it is able to be indexed. I agree that the search here is less than ideal, but i am not sure of another solution they could use. The one option would be for them to use a local version of Google, which could index the site and be searchable only by authenticated users. _____________________

That looks like it ought to do the job. I am not some sort of google lover. I just want better search capability for the forums. Well I bet at least some folks didn't realize that the LSL wiki was googleable. If you use the advanced search page with the domain specific search you can do a better job of searching the wiki than the wiki's search mechanism allows. _____________________

I have always used Google to access the LSL Wiki, even before it moved to SecondLife.com - it's a much faster way to look up info. I am a complete Google addict - I use it extensively to look up information. I would be lost without it. _____________________

VBulletin 3.5.0 has MySQL Full Text Search , which should be faster (and maybe better) than the currently used Vb search in the 3.0.5 version.
So maybe when LL upgrades to 3.5.0, we'll see an improvement in the search. _____________________
