A lil bit of everything

You know the one thing that I like is that on the surface, SL has a lil bit of everything.

Note.. I did say on the surface.

If your a builder, or a scripter, or love textures, or chatting, of creating a business that is innovative and rewarding, or if you just love exploring SL has all that you could possibly crave, and more. The possibilities that are open with it are endless, mindblowing, and down right nifty.

However the one area it seems to be lacking is in combat or adventure. Now now I know that people are gonna say some things about this, so I'll post them just so ya know I'm not a complete airhead..

1) You can do combat, and as the game matures it only gets better.
2) There is adventure (can you say treasure hunts?)
3) There are a zillion and one MMORG's out there that allow for that so why the need for another.
4) Get a life.

I'm gonna jump around in the list because thats how my brain works.

3) there *are* a zillion of those types of games - so why is SL? Because there are a zillion of them for a reason - it's what's wanted. People love to explore new and strange lands/tunnels and kill the things they find there. They love to brag about, post about, take screenshots, and who knows what they do aside from that (not going there).

SL is unique in that if it had those capabilities it could be just like them -- except.. You could build your own home, run your own shop, make items specifically for those adventuring souls, get all the great features of SL *plus* some pillaging on the side.

And lets not kid ourselves, SL is ripe for it - anyone note all the guns and swords and staves and shields and armor and castles and and and that are littering SL? There's a reason - people want all that SL offers, plus a lil more :)

1/2) Yes we have them right now. But when it comes to combat who are we combatting? ourselves. Other players. Make it into a game (like Lindenball) and it's fun and good. But make it a grudge match in the outlands where someone dies, and feelings can get hurt, or enemies made which can lead to griefing. NPC creatures or beings allow for the combat blood to flow without needing to worry about other's players and their feelings. Also what a great chance for further cooperation between inhabitants.

And while I think the treasure hunts are great, dungeons, castles, traps, look at all that you can do with SL and think to yourself - now just how cool could you make a exploration setting, with something actually guarding the treasure hunt object as opposed to just it lying t here..... And that's another key.. people, normal people (you and I) can make elaborate dungeons/traps/npc's and invite people over to dare our new creation (look it's another type of open house - call it open lair?)

In the end with a experience like SL offering a lil bit of everything, why not offer a lil more? SL draws all sorts to it's shores, they are creating the life they desire - a life bold and different from the one that lays outside this box - why not offer it all?

oh and in case you think I forgot

4) get a life? yeah I need to, instead of constantly posting here *sighs*

Ok, go ahead and call me a stick in the mud. The idea of killing stuff does nothing for me. I was near the welcome area and saw a group at a house recently, I flew over to meet & greet and someone flew and me with a big growl. I was attacked and fiercely told to get lost. I had never gotten a chance to even say a word (although I did get off a rating before I left).

Now, that being said I know and accept this will happen. It isnt common and for me I like that.

I know killing type gaming has its audience and that's fine. If more of it comes to SL as Im sure it will, thats fine too. Personally I hope there is a place (yes, the Outlands) for it so the rest of us can live in relative peace if thats what WE choose.

LOL here is the funny thing Misnomer

I really dont care about the killing either :)

The problems I raise are on an intellectual baisis at times, not just a personal.

Yes I play FPS's - but what I desire from SL is to create.

I just acknowledge that others desire other things.

I think a large part of making this possible is a change to the way damage is dealt by weapons. Fatal games are a joke when every shot kills.

I had a couple of threads I started because I wanted the options to add a more RPG feel ....

I think the reason there are so many mmorpgs isn't because people want them so badly. I think it's because none of them can seem to GET IT RIGHT! They still can't bring in the key demographic, ME! :D The person who feels it is ethically WRONG to have to subscribe to video games to play them. But hey, that's just me, and I like pretending I'm a key demographic :)

BTW The game you're talking about, where you build your own shop, edit the land, and do as you please, while still having an adventure out there... yeah... it's called Star Wars Galaxies :p The difference between that game and this one is that this one is a much better tight knit community, and by the looks of things, closer to release :D I still don't think I'm gonna pay to play SWG, but SL.... I'm on the verge of getting out my credit card ;)

Yeah I knew about SWG. and know all the fun stuff it can and will be able to do.

And I'll still take SL over it 6 days out of the week and three times on sunday.
