Hmm, I just saw in MPOGD that the disco used to have an object that wasn't there anymore when I took over it. Some kind of scoreboard with a digital display? It was also missing one of its corner pillars, oddly, and it looked like part of its land was in another persons hands, since both the entrance and the help note dispenser were on someone else's land. After much revamping of the mixmaster and associated scripts, I was left with the impression that it was supposed to do a lot more than it was presently doing. I came across a lot of hidden sounds when disassembling and rebuilding it. Seems like it was part of some timed competition? Can anyone out there tell me more about the Disco? I dont recall ever being there and only joined in April. At the new disco, I hope to recreate and improve on your past experiences, and for that, I have to know them. This is a civic project after all, so the more input I get, the better I can serve the community. Thank you.

I would like to know as well... once I layed eyes on the mixmaster's script, I couldnt believe it even functioned at all in the past *snicker*. During the beta days I only once visited Alt-zoom, but wasnt able to explore it, as it had an aura of supermassive client-crashing lag around it... sad.
If anyone has any info on how it was before it died, please post, im very curious.

Back when I started beta, events were actually held there. It wasnt too laggy. I dont remember ever having a DJ competition, but, the way it worked (I believe) was that a few DJ's would compete against each other and the dancers would rate them. The disco was supposed to be the most advanced scripting in the world.

The mixmaster was built to test the functionality that we wanted the scripting language to have. It's development led to some of the sound synchronization features of the scripting language.
The original concept was to make a gadget that people could walk up to, drop new sounds, and play with for about 5 minutes. Or it could be used to hold a DJ competition where the audience could rate the person driving the tunes via the scoreboard, which would cache the high-scores and display them with floating text (back when the font for floating text was a bit bigger).
Few DJ competitions were held, but one time we modified the scoreboard to allow automatic vote tracking for the first avatar competition (which was totally fun and was viewed on the big projection screen we had in our office... Steller won with Pinochio but this was when the avatar possibilities were very fresh so there were a whole bunch of ideas that we had never seen before, like the soup-can, the invisible-avatar-hack, and of course Cory's chicken that laid firecracker eggs. One of the coolest parts of the contest was Ryan Linden driving the mixmaster with his latest collection of loops).
The mixmaster was supposed to allow users to totally customize the sounds on the various channels, while being able to reset itself to a default configration after a certain period of non-use.
Anyway... I probably still have some old copies of the mixmaster and scoreboard. If anyone wants to get copies just let me know (via this thread or private forum message) and I'll search in my dusty inventory folders for them.
It also might be possible for me to resurrect a complete copy of the Alt-Zoom from an old file. Dunno if we have a complete copy lying around somewhere.

Well, I'm supposed to be building a new one soon, so no need to ressurect it, but if I could get a copy of that scoreboard I would love to have it. I have a copy of the mixmaster myself, new and improved, but I was thinking of trying out a new design for it with a simplified interface that takes less prims to build and would be easier to align. And Chris, don't go acting all pompous, you still havent figured out whats that metronome script or fixed the volume slider bug that makes the button detach from the rod sometimes Thank you, Andrew (and everyone else of course). Any more thoughts or stories on the old Disco?
