I don't usually check there cuz it doesn't change that often (I think, but again I don't check often...) but I thought I would today just cuz of the new site and all.
I think everyone should go read it. It has some very good information in it, including that there will be at some undisclosed point in time an extended down time as the servers are moved from one facility to another.
Also some nice info about infastructure and future plans for world size (hint: huge). Looking around the world tonight I am glad to hear that, because really with the exception of the new theme and otherwise controled sims the world is really getting too crowded.
Anyways just a heads up for anyone who doesn't usually check out the developers journal (under the 'second life news' option at the top).

I had read this, and I told a few people...most don't even seem to care. I am very upset about the downtime that is coming, but, a larger would be so very nice. This world isn't big enough for all of us.
I hope this also means extended hours...

As Nexus Nash might say, "it's a beta", and they're moving the servers to a more secure, more stable location. Unless we want to buy them some pretty sophisticated WiFi gear and a really long extension cord, there's going to be some downtime.
You should see this as an opportunity to persure other interests outside of SL, like... making textures for SL, or catching up on your forum reading.

From: someone Keep an eye out for announcements about this, as we'll probably have the system down for two or three days. I suggest you read the whole thing (as was originally suggested). Sounds like a good thing to me. Yes, being off for 2-3 days sounds like a bummer but in the long run it'll be a good thing. Maybe it's time to plan that vacation you've been putting off.

Three words: Down time, yay!
I might actually get something done in my FIRST life now.. like.. visit my parents who are wondering what rock I crawled under.
Definitely a must see journal!

A small update on this, since writing the journal I've revised the plan a bit and we're now hoping to have the system down for less than a day. I'll post in the Announcements forum when I have more final information, but look for this to happen late next week.

Well, it's 5:30 in the morning, and there were some glitches, but the Second Life servers are up and running in their new home. You'll need to download a new Second Life version.
