So I've got some land in Perry and recently the area has really been filling up -- there's a ton of new development.

Like all rapid development in SL, some of it is very nice looking and some is, well, quite ugly (imho). That's not the point. The point is that I'm feeling crowded and thinking about picking a new sim to make my 'home base' in. (I can't say that I have ever actually built a "house" per se.)

So, what sims (or just general areas) do you guys recommend? Where's a nice quiet neighborhood where a guy can spend hours on wacky scripting interspersed with chats with his friendly neighbors? Does such a place exist? :P

Even after a month or so in SL I realize I'm not that aware of the general state of most of the sims. I ended up in Perry through coincidence basically and have mostly visited sims where I know people or where events are happening.

So, everyone pitch their favorite spot :P

Teal! However, good luck finding space, I think a lot of the land has been purchased! :(

Well, I won't tell you my favorite place because I don't want it to become crowded too!! hehe

But as with moving to a new city, its best not to put roots down too far until you have had a chance to experience the place for a while. I've been here since the Alpha and I'm STILL keeping my builds small (pun intended).

You probably already know this but there is a tax advantage for building in a crowded area. This is a bit backward to me, just the opposite of real life. The rationale (I think) is that in real life, you can tax city dwellers based on their property values, which tend to be higher in crowded areas. People want to live CLOSE. Close to work, close to the mall, etc. There is no corresponding need in SL. Without an incentive people would spread out into one big "suburban sprawl" with no city center to give it any cohesion. (Well, thats my theory anyway, maybe they just flipped a coin or something).

Anyway, get out and wander around for a while. Make sure your balance is going up or at least stable before you buy the Ponderosa, or you will find like several have that your reach exceeds your grasp (I love that phrase). Also figure out how your are going to make money (or figure out like me that you don't care to) and adjust your site selection accordingly.

Have fun!

movig to a newer area that has almost noone around is not always the best thing. If u don't want alot of taxes and such then u might wanna consider living closer to others. The land discount is not going to be that great if u want a place all to yourself. Just a general observation.

Brown.

It's a quiet little sim at the end of the world, with very few neighbours. It has build restrictions, but those are not too bad really, talk to the residents there about it or just look at their houses.

With the new Sims coming online soon that'll probably change though :)

Sorry Brown residents for giving away your secret hideout ;-)

Green isn't bad either, if you don't mind living in a log cabin or a tent, that sim has even less inhabitants than Brown does.
