Hi forums. :) Recently the social bug bit me but when I go looking for events they are mostly "clubby" sorts of things with glamorous supermodel types dancing or playing ___ingo. Where do the dorky people hang out? lol

Are there any events for weird eclectic people who are not into clubs? HELP! :o

Filter your search on events. There is a category listing in the events page that will show you different event categories for the day. It defaults to ALL so you can change it to something that may interest you more.

If you don't find anything in there to do, you can always go to a Sandbox or to the Welcome Area. Always something interesting happening at either one. Best places in game to go and just people watch. LOL

Hello, Dizzy! "Weird"? "Eclectic"? As a self-proclaimed 'dork,' I can tell you that there are plenty of events geared for the so-inclined. Consider joining some of the open groups that appeal to your inner-doofus. My geeky nature finds groups like the Philosophy Club, Brain Gamers, and the Elbow Room a perfect fit--not too much spam and way-fun events.

If none of these appeal, please feel free to IM me in-world, and I can make additional suggestions.

I also find the general run of clubs uncomfortable and so do some of my friends. Maybe we can get together to build a Dorks' club - called something like The Eclectic Blanket. Ooh, ideas ... :)

just treat 'find' a little more like googling - whatever you're interested in, punch it in. explore and have fun!! :)

DORKZ REPREZENT!

Um, sorry. That was too dorky even for me. :o Thanks for all the good tips. Events can be filtered, you say. I did not know that because I am dumb. lol The concept of a Dork Club is intriguing. THANK YOU ALL! :)

I'm with ya. Club scene is a little tiring, but there are some other options. I'm all for a MST3000-type gab fest during any nationally televised event. Could even do a synchronized DVD start. Trivia is also entertaining. Can get all sorts of odd discussions going among the people watching. Someone mentioned a flash mob a while back.

Come to the Frogg Marlowe show tonight :). He sings live every Friday night at the Lilypad (also listed in events). I went for the first time 2 weeks ago and met so many people and had so much fun, I am going every week. Make sure you leave early though because every time he plays, he fills the SIM to capacity.

Hope to see you there tonight...

Gabe, I think you are on to something.

Even if it is not something truly entertaining like the presidential debates, a couple of hours of the Discovery Channel could yield some entertaining commentary.

Yay, Gabe! :D

For a while, I've thought that it'd be fun to hang around discussing TV shows while they aired (Lost maybe?) I keep looking for TV events, but so far I'll I've seen has been Reality TV based stuff and most of those shows just don't do it for me.

That said, I'd love to find a way to link up with other dorks in SL. I miss the days of Club & Tringo free events listings. Obviously people enjoy them or it wouldn't be so popular, but occasionally I'd like to nerd it up with some other geeks.

The Frogg Marlowe show was AWESOME! Thank you Xtropy for suggesting it. That is JUST the kind of event I was looking for. We need more of them. Or maybe I need to be better at finding them. lol Thanks for all the advice from everyone and lots of good stuff to think about!

Exactly, though I've participated recently in a Big Brother watching party that was entertaining, I was thinking more of something that could get people talking and that would enhance discussion, not overshadow it.

Stopped by the Frogg M. show, interesting. U2 in SL, also interesting, but mostly just people dancing. Stopped by a sailboat race and thought it was hilarious.

Maybe we just need a lounge with music or talk radio going and plenty of table seating. Similar to the Frogg M. show but without the live music. Maybe someone could put together a comedy show or skits? A public soapbox in a park? Basically, a center of attention for people to crowd around that isn't gambling/clubbing (love 'em, but need other avenues to amuse myself).

Must pause stream of consciousness long enough to post.....

Trying to bite tongue....

Must hold back.....

Have to blurt it out!

Check out Riddle City Ransom if you want to play a fun, social game that forces you to make new friends.

You can keep your eyes peeled for Riddle City Ransom Events, or you can just go to the Shogunate Temple and begin playing.

There is an open group you can join to find other players too!

We've had over 150 people play Riddle City Ransom puzzles, and close to that amount playing the larger quest.
