It appears that we have a new pope? What are you thoughts on who was selected and what do you believe will be the implications for the Catholic Church?

Honestly, I don't care, but I've been listening to the reports and it seems as though they made the safest possible choice they could have ever made. It's like if the regular Pope was still alive.
Thank god the guy's old.

Thank god the guy's old. Hehe, this makes me think that there's a 'part-time' pope out there somewhere, to be used as a stand in if the real pope needs to run off to use the bathroom in the middle of church or something

He's against gay marriage. (Okay, homosexuality in general as well)
He's against abortion.
He's against divorce.
He's like the Catholic Bush without a DUI!
(omg did I just say "Catholic Bush"? I guess I really am Frank Zappa's alt)

Yeah...but ALL popes have those same stances (being that it is the position of the catholic church). Still, at least they figured out the whole "earth is not the center of the universe-thing" a few years back...oh, and now they feel bad about that whole "not condemning the Nazis for the holocaust-thingy". And word on the street is that soon they are going to admit that the Inquisition was kinda mean spirited....

Yes, finally and recently acknowledging that the earth rotated round the sun rather than the opposite was a big step forward lol.
