So in other words, do you find it convenient to switch to your broswer and browse a web page while you have SL running? If there was a link to a website in-world, for example. Thanks for voting!

I'm kinda a bit of both. It's annoying because Firefox is such a memory hog that it doesn't like being kept minimized, then maximized while running SL and will take awhile to load up. At the same time, any in-world browser won't have the same features Firefox does (atleast not to start with I don't think).
I really really really want SL to have clickable links in Chat History, IM, and perhaps Notecards. But it seems to be a feature that's too simple to implement. ;P _____________________

There's no issue whatsoever with browsing while I have SL open. Especially if I'm running in windowed mode.
However, it's incredibly slow and annoying to follow a link *from* SL to a web page. |

Hmm.....Well my concern is...I'm creating this place, and I want to make a guestbook (Dreambook.com) so people could leave comments and feedback about the place....I mean I wish there was a script that could let me do that with a simple Notepad, where people could leave comments without modifying the rest of the notepad, but until then this is the alternative I have. Bad alternative?...

I don't think so. I have a script that picks up on URLs said in chat and does a llOpenURL for me, and I don't mind it.
Another alternative you could do is use primrezing with each prim having it's own llSetText message that people set. I setup a kinda bulletinboard where people rez "Sticky Notes" that hold the message in the Description and on llSetText. Only problem is you can get "SetText Spam" with alot of them... Unless you do something like: llSetTextMessage Prim --------<- line llSetTextMessage Prim --------<-line On a big prim board with prims going up and down... but then you have to worry about prim count and other ickyness. Situations like this is exactly why I want llWriteToNotecard or even llCreateToNotecard. *shakes fist and curses Lindens for creating assets that can't be handled with that* _____________________

I usually run in windowed and have SL running along with a bunch of other apps, so it doesn't bother me to be sent to a webpage.

Same here, I usually have the forums and the wiki in the background, and occasionally Photoshop.
I think that the Firefox browser in-world shouldn't be high-priority, except for the HTML-on-a-prim thing. _____________________

Nimue,
It will also become less annoying once it is integrated directly into SL with (hopefully) version 1.7. I am planning adding tighter Snapzilla integration in world once a browser window can be launched inside of SL and HTML can be put on prims. I have been surprised how rarely web links are used in SL though, I would have thought it more common. _____________________

I think that the Firefox browser in-world shouldn't be high-priority, except for the HTML-on-a-prim thing. For awhile, Photoshop and SL were constant companions. Haven't had the time lately, though. My real interest in Firefox being brought in-engine is HTML rendering. Specifically, notecards. I'm very interested in having full HTML support for notecards. This would make documentation a lot more effective and attractive (and I'm all about that combo). _____________________

I dunno about the technical bits so please fill me in, but any reason why Opera wasn't selected? It isn't "open source" but it does get licensed, including to smallform cellphones and PDAs so it seems scalable enough to not be a hog. What would be the major strikes against having it in SL? (I don't like how it's neatly W3C-compliant on one hand and because of this, doesn't display "nonstandard" tags properly, but I digress.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_%28web_browser%29 To answer your verygood Q, Nimue, I run SL in windowed mode because I am frequently distracted and need to check up on so many things, including my website where I write blog entries on the fly as I am adventuring. I'm hoping inworld HTML prims leads to much greater immersion though for relatively straightforward display of webpages that aren't too elaborate. _____________________

...Because it's not open-source.
They would probably have to pay for a license, and Firefox is more popular, and thus has more people willing to help SL. Lots of programmers have worked with Firefox, fewer have worked with Opera. At least, that's my Best Guess(TM) _____________________
