I don't like to give to charities because I think they are too beaurocratic. ha! ok there are two I would help....
One is a local charity that my "niece" *she is a family friend's child that just called me Aunt growing up*. She started a charity to help homeless people when she was about 10 and even though she is in college now, it is still going strong.
A local battered women's shelter that takes them in and helps them get established with their children.
But the top 10 people I would help out:
My 3 daughters- I would put money away for their future. My mother My brother that just recently had a kidney and pancreas transplant my brothers two kids- same thing for them since he is unable to work. my inlaws my good friend tina that is a single mom and struggling with 2 jobs to make ends meet.

This would be my rough plans if I won $10 million or more.
1. Go buy a top-notch RV with all the fixins.
2. Put almost all my belongings in storage and let go of my lease on my apartment.
3. Drive across the country, taking my time and going wherever the road takes me, spending as much or as little time as I wish here or there.
4. Send a good amount of money to immediate family members and friends.
5. Send money to a few worthwhile charities.
6. Return from my travels after about 6 months, after deciding where I'd like to live, and commision a house to be built to my rough specifications.
7. park RV and travel to other parts of the world for about 6 months to a year.
8. Return to finished home, move in, write, paint draw and go on occasional trips.
During my travels I would have a nanny/tutor for my son that would travel with us, teaching him and watching him when I wanted to hit some of the more hardcore nightlife.

Screw giving to charities! Its my money! Mine! Okay, not really. But with all the news about charities not doing what they are supposed to with their monies, I would instead start my own foundations to be sure the money went where I wanted. Unless I really knew the charity in question, or it had George Clooney on the board. Honestly, I haven't thought about it much, and I probably won't until I actually have enough money to bother. First thing is getting me and my family out of debt, then we'll look at what kind of benefit I can be to the planet in general.

I've said if I don't have to worry about money, I would buy each of my friends and family one thing that they want/need. I'd probably give a bunch of cash to educational grants and cancer research as well.
