not offhand, but you could plunk a prim at the northeast corner of a sim and check it's position.

Hehehe... Once I asked an engineer what time it was, and he told me how to build a clock.

Actually, that's a damn fine idea, I don't know why it wasn't mine ;) Thx my brutha.

sim size

should be able to guess from gridsquare size on the map, shouldn't you?
I know that from Steller's treehouse ( which is on a sim bound I hear ) to the mainland shore (approx) is one sim.

Sim Dimensions
12-10-2002 09:37
Sim dimensions are:

256 meters x 256 meters or
65536 sq meters

Questions for anyone who has the time to convert:
Anyone care to convert to sq ft?
Acres?
make comparisons i.e. the size of x # of football fields?

How many sims to make NY's central park?
How much room would a 747 take on one sim?
If we wanted to build the Mall in Washington DC, how many sims would we need to place end to end?
Could we fit your college campus on one sim?
How much room would the block that you live on take in one sim? (no fair for those of you who live in rural farms where blocks are about 60 miles long...)
How many Ford Explorers can we park on one sim?
Could a Cessna land one one sim? successfully?

This could go on for hours, I'll stop here.

-P

Ok,, and I rem U mentioned at 1 time, the max # of Obs in a set was 128,,, what about how many obs can you have selected at one time? how many sets at one time? is it still128 objects regardless of whether they are still discrete objects or sets?

Um... I just learned today that the max # of primitives that can be linked together is 256 -- not 128.

Also, one of the other developers claimed today that you can select at most 256 primitives. A "primitive" is one of the fundamental shapes (the pieces of the set) whereas an "object" is any collection of primitives (a set).

Ok,, that helps to know.

Now what would happen if I selected 2 objects that , TOGETHER, containde over 256 primitives? ( not that I wanna cause trouble, I just want to make sure I'm undestanding the second sentance propely.)

Hehe... try it and find out... ;-) (just not with hollow torii -- ghaaa!)

Well really... undefined behavior... depending on what you try to do to the selected primitives.

For instance, if you were unlinking them my guess is that 256 primitives will be unlinked, so one or more of the complex objects would not be totally unlinked.

If you were deleting them my guess is that any object which had a primitive selected would be deleted.

In short, any operation that would affect the primitives (color, link/delink) would _probably_ partially succeed or fail. Any operation that you would expect to operate on the whole object (delete, claim, permissions) would _probably_ succeed even if only a part ot the object were selected.

Hmmm, ya know, I was having a wierdage the other night when working with an object containing around 110 prims.

seems that not only would the marquee color not change from blue to yellow when breaking up the object (until you dropped the set & then reselected the prims... 1 by 1), but also, when trying to delete the object, it wouldn't actually leave the sim till I logged out & logged back on...

But I didn't let that stop me ;)

object won't delete
12-16-2002 10:45
Could have been due to packet-loss. The object was correctly deleted on the server, but the packet carrying that fact might not have reached you.

We know how to make this work better. I'll file a bug so that the issue goes into the schedule.

Actually,, I traced the problem down to the marketing department at Electronic Arts. ;)
