For anyone who's wondering, I probably won't be back on SL for another couple of weeks or so... I've moved out of my residence on campus(with it's lovely 10mb/s connection) and gone home for the summer (with our crappy 10 hour limited dial up) So until I get a job down here, I have no decent connection. But I'll be back soon hopefully -Kia

Be careful.. I think the lindens said that accounts inactive for more than 28 days will be deleted (I think it was 28 days).

Kurt's correct. I would make special arrangements with the Lindens if you can, or arrange to have a GOOD friend you can trust login to your account periodically to refresh your last login date.

err why not split the DSL? i.e. when she's not using it, jack in and "refresh" your account? the easy way to accomplish this would be with a cheap 10mbit hub (you can get them for <$20 usually now) and just copy all the network settings from your mom's laptop and install any software (PPPoE, etc) if necessary. or, if you wanted to, you could also buy a router, depending on who your mom's DSL provider is. most routers will work with just about any DSL connection, and the Linksys BEFSR series will even work with AOL broadband connections (with a firmware patch, downloadable from linksys' site). there are lots of ways for an SL addict to get their fix if worst comes to worst, and your mom doesn't want you using her connection, just copy the network settings and install software as i mentioned above, but when she's not around, hijack the network cable and plug it into your machine, then when you've refreshed your account, put the cable back, put your computer up, and she'll be none the wiser... a lot harder to detect than if you "hide" SL on her computer, being that she will suddenly discover 200+MB of HD space has spontaneously "disappeared". and furthermore, most laptops have lower-quality video cards and less memory than desktops, so you'll be cheating yourself out of some horsepower, as well

I don't live with my mom, or I'd so flinch her connection without her realizing it.... Hell, when I first moved out I used her dial up for over a year before the company caught on....
Unfortunately... after an incident involving my mother spying on me, a webcam, a diskette hidden under my bed, and a boyfriend who moved to Germany for 3 months....well... lets just say that my mother no longer aproves of me using computers for anything at all.... internet, cameras, laptops, scanner all included in her 'no let leslie touch' list
So I'm going to have to suck it up and pay for it myself... although I might be renting a spot a couple towns over if an uncle of mine can get me into the factory there.... *Gods I need a job*
-Kia

ugggghhh.... that bites. good luck on getting the factory job if nothing else, if you've got a VERY trusted friend with decent 'net access and a SL account, you may have them log in for you once or twice while you're gone, so your account doesn't go inactive and get deleted. (provided you're going to be gone more than a month)
