Hello, My second life began about 6 weeks ago and I'm fed up with continually having to go to paypal! I was an active and very popular player of The Sims Online until EA closed the game on 1st August. Does anyone have a suitable SL job for me? Here are some details of my real life to help with your decision as to whether my criteria is suitable for any vacancies out there. I am female, 45, live in the UK, so GMT is my time zone, married with 2 teenagers. Have worked in Customer Service roles for over 15 years, including banking, not sales. I currently work on a hospital switchboard, night-shift 7 on 7 off, so during my 7 on I do not have much time for my second life. Have gained a lot of computer/Internet experience over the years and have excellent keyboard skills. I have never explored design or custom content and have yet to learn the SL building techniques, though I am quite a quick learner if I have a good teacher. When I'm not working, I generally spend 4 to 5 hours on SL mainly during the evening and often in to the early hours! I have a friendly outgoing personality and enjoy meeting new people, role playing and chatting. Please note, I am absolutely NOT interested in pole dancing, escorting or sex in SL! If any of you have a vacancy that you think may suit me, please PM me in game. I look forward to hearing from you

If any of you have a vacancy that you think may suit me, please PM me in game. I look forward to hearing from you Suzi I feel ya. I was "born" in TSO over 8 yrs ago. It was what got me into virtual worlds. L$ in SL comes from content creation or sex sadly and very little else. We were all new once, I for example cannot build anything thats worth selling because I chose to spend my time learning a paint program which gave me nothing back in the way lf L$ for over 2 yrs. You have to learn a skill..and you have to enjoy that skill...sadly, your RL skills do not have much of a role in SL. If you had business skills that could be applied to something, the skills your mention are plentiful in SL. You have 2 choices right now. 1) accept you need to learn to build or create something in outside software aps such as poses , animations, textures this costs money for the software and a lot of time learning it. Or you can learn to build in SL which costs you nothing but again takes time and even if and when you manage to develop a skill from the above list, there is no promise you will sell anything. SL is swamped with stores and creations...so much so this is why the increase in copybot theft occured IMO..ppl got frustrated at the fact so many ppl are already highly skilled and had their roots in SL years before they joined so they attempt to take shortcuts and steal content to try make a quick buck... the full perm market was born out of other honest designers who DID have the skill but despite this could not compete with the already successful competition. SL is very much like Multi Level Marketing...its always best to be in at the start...sure the odd person can still come along at the late stages and make a success but he/she has to have something that will blow the other competitors out of the water , be in many more yrs experience in the software they use for textures for skins etc or some idea/concept that hasnt been born yet. 2) camping. When your working you set your avatar to camp. I am not sure how much exactly you would make but if you have 2 PCs it would help. 1 avatar sat camping for 8 hours I guess would make L$200 (? ) 2 PCs and 2 avatars and you can double that. Dont forget the electric bill of course for running your PC. Failing that I am unaware of another way to make money. Some-times stores hire assistants...for around $L100 - L$1000 an hour. Approach some well known stores and drop them a notecard. Dont IM them, most peoples IMs dont get seen of they are business owners. Hope that helps

I am looking for Teachers, offering great pay.

If you think you might like to teach in SL. I host the Sunbelt University. I also will offer very good compensation! Just think you get about 10 for 10 min of you time. I will pay up to $380 L per class you host, maybe more.
I do have some course materials you could use. But in general I perfer having teachers teach what they are passionate about. So far we have scripting, building, and sculptie classes. If you think you might be interested, send an im to Onna Oktomica.

I can attest that you don’t have to be a builder or scripter or graphics designer to make money in SL. What helps most is to be curious and “out there”. Social networking goes along way. If you don’t have a social network then create one. Make some friends, find some people who share a common interest. Join some groups or make your own group. Listen to what others have to say or what their issues are. Find a need or perceived need and fill it. Example: I love shopping in SL. I met a lady who hated shopping in SL (hard to believe I know) and she told me that if I came across a dress I thought she would look nice in she would buy it. I was still very much a noob but my first job in SL was providing a personal shopping service. I didn’t make a ton of money but it was enough to put a few $Ls in my pocket and it was fun. Then there’s the old “Build a better mouse trap”. Look at what people are spending money on and see if you can improve on it or expand it (please don’t steal it). Maybe some day you will come across something and think “what a piece of crap I could do better then that for half the cost” And Voile! Good luck

I spent over year in TSO over 5 years ago before I made my first alt here. It was really hard to make the transistion. I work really hard to improve my skills but still I don't really make money here. Truthfully it's much harder then TSO when I was builder there. You've gotten a lot of good advise though, some I hadn't even thought of and I have been here years off and on in different alt, etc. Good luck and welcome to forums. Good luck. FD

Thank you for all of your inspiring replies. I have already created a group for 'Used to be Sims' LOL, but to be honest haven't done anything with it as yet, been too busy getting a home/base set up, slowly getting there. So far have 3 members, including myself. I do have a long-term plan/idea, just need the skill then the capital to start it up. Anyway, for now I continue meeting nice people, chatting and shopping

There are several ways to make money in sl... 1)Camp 2)Become good at something...scripting, designing, hosting, etc. 3)Start a venture/fund a business(and hope it succeeds) 4)If you are lucky...you may be hired as a sales rep by an rl company...that would pay 2k an hour. 5)Get good at slingo or gambling(that doesn't work anymore=[ )

You could always be a host or events manager for a club. There are plenty of venues that don't have anything to do with sex.

Hi Suzi,
If you are interested in being a greeter, I am part of a 1800's community called Antiquity that is always looking for people with good social skills to greet new comers and give them tours around the 32 sim community. If you are interested, send me an inworld im and we can meet to discuss.

Machinima projects often needs actors...I know I do off and on. Voice actors too.
The casting calls get posted on the machinima forum and may also be posted on the Machinima Actors Guild (I haven't been a member for awhile so it may have changed).
Also as machinima starts to become more successful, there will be a need for avatar designers/dressers (skin, hair to clothes to create a character), shoppers etc., set builders/dressers and camera operators.
Also advertising sales for some of the publications and TV stations might be a good job for you.
Some of the schools in SL need someone to go out and get ads too.
Event planning for a club would be a good job.
I think it is not that different than RL except that escorting/sex worker seems to be the first job that comes to mind in SL rather than the my-children-would-have-to-be-facing-starvation-first choice it is in RL for most people.
