paulie, maybe you can tell me when approval ratings mean something and when they don't.

I've never quoted a poll rating or a majority opinion as evidence for any argument. I'm wondering if you can explain how you think they are relevent

They don't mean a thing unless they are very high, or very low. It's just that journalists and politicians are obsessed with them, because they constitute pretty much the only hard data that they have. Even if they don't, really, they can pretend that they do, and they know that statistical education is poor enough that they can bluff their way through.

29% is pretty low I'd say - that might mean something. But going from 45% to 55% means nothing.
