I believe a knife that long is commonly refered to as a Machete, or possibly a short sword if you bought it from E-Bay. I suggest a pair of scissors for this all important task. While I agree sometimes it can be fun to fish with dynamite, try to hit flies with a sledge hammers, and my favorite light cigarettes with blow torches; cutting tags off with a machete just doesn't add to the fun. Keep it simple and grab those scissors.
