Yes, indeed. Fred Phelps has always been one sick S.O.B.

I remember, almost ten years ago now, I saw them in action. At the time I had a friend who was a student at the University of Wyoming, so I went up with a few friends to attend Matt Shepard's memorial service, and those sickos were in full force. Taunting the family, the friends, the priest. Trying to shut down the poor kid's funeral...they can't get their views aired in any legitimate forum, so this is the kind of tactic to which they resort.

I've never seen such vitriolic hate in person in all my life; unfortunately, that isn't the only time I've seen them. If there were ever any group whose free speech I disagreed with, it's them - and yet, I still support their right to say their sick, hateful things, as long as it stays peaceful and largely undistruptive.

But if they step out of the line in the slightest, haul em' right off to jail.

Indeed. Yeay, us.

Fred Phelps is essentially the Taliban with a Christian face. If he were President, pre-9/11 Afghanistan is pretty much what America would look like.
