""In 1969 the US Senate had a hearing on funding the newly developed Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The proposed endowment was $20 million, but President Nixon wanted it cut in half because of the spending going on in the Vietnam War. This is an video clip of the exchange between Mr. Rogers and Senator Pastore, head of the hearing. Senator Pastore starts out very abrasive and by the time Mr. Rogers is done talking, Senator Pastore's inner child has heard Mr. Rogers and agreed with him. Enjoy."

If youre like me you grew up on Mr Rogers. Now that I have two small children, Ive come to appreciate all he did all the more. Anyways here's a little break from all the anger and rage thats on the forums lately. Have tissues handy, even my stoic bf needed them.

I hate Mr. Rogers. I hated him when I was a kid. I hate him now that I'm an adult.

Well...not the man...just his show.

Jeez, do you kick puppies too? I admit that even as a child, I found him a bit... weird. I also found him quite harmless. Personally, I was more into Sesame Street.

Now, this guy deserves a good ass whuppin'. He kinda looks like Mr Rogers if he was a brainwashing polygamous pedophile. Whenever you think bad thoughts about Fred Rogers, just transfer those thoughts to this weasly bastard. :D

There is something in that man's voice that can melt the hardest of hearts. To know someone out there, not just said they cared as so many in Second Life seem to do, but actually would care if you met him face to face.

Mr. Rogers was a man who contributed so much to many children, and even to this day still appears on public television beside the mystical figures of creatures with televisions in their stomaches and dinosaurs that teach you to dance and sing.

The genious of a man who made you believe you could ride a trolly into a wall and come out in a place where a king loved his family and learned lessons as he ruled and even the community ne'er-do-well could be shown that there is more to life than finding a way to blame others for your own shotcomings. The genious of a man that is hard to find today, but that would stand the test of time and still hold his own against a barrage of computer generated environments and puppets that would blow his out of the water in terms of craftsmanship. There is nothing more really to say about the man other than his genious as well as his true love for humankind and our soon to be leaders that still are innocent in their thinking.

Thank you for posting that, you have added more to my day by seeing him as he was, and also having a refresher that there are people in the world still who can think about what the world lost in him, miss him just the same, but still remember what he did for so many, including myself.

You know what I love about Fred Rogers? He was always a man of reason first and foremost. It's almost like he was unflappable. He always seems so calm and serene, no matter what anyone said to him. And polite! How can anyone be that polite? I wonder if he ever said a cuss word in his entire life?

The one thing that makes him such a great man was that he never strayed from his principles. He walked the walk when it came to what he believed. He didn't just give lip service to nice sounding ideals, he lived it. He was a man of integrity, and that's something to be admired.

In every sense of the word, he was a Buddha. Well, he was a Boddavista to be exact. Many could learn from his example, including me.

Admittedly...

I was a fan of his show as a kid.

I think it was just because my drunken-redneck of dad HATED him and would always get home, see it on and then leave.

In modern times, I can usually get a tortured groan out of my drinking buddies by starting to sing "Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood"... and a promise of another round if I stop. :)

I wish Fred was still around for my niece to see. Now she'll be bombarded by the crap they call "childrens' television" nowadays.

Heh, I might upload the video dub I did with my cousin when we got our VHS video camera back in 1987. We dubbed over the audio of Mr. Rogers & it turned out.... funny? Bizarre? Either way, we had Handyman Negry playing Hendrix's "Star Spangled Banner", Fred threatening to break fingers, mentions of sperm banks, etc. Just dumb kid stuff.
Besides- my cousin would shit a brick if he knew I uploaded it. He wanted it erased "in case he runs for Senate someday". Yea right!!! :D
