Yay! Use a coal fired power plant and spew tons of CO2 into the air to make the electricity to extract the hydrogen from water. Just what we need. More global warming. Think of all the business opportunities of opening resort beached on the Arctic Ocean.

Oh it looks like you have an idea about how this works. So, if I understand what you are implying that the resources needed to fuel the electricity to make the HHO will negate the benefit of not using oil?
Don't we use electricity to use oil too? or are you just making a reference to global warming? okay I am going to need for you to be more clear with me why you are against the HHO energy option. |

You can't get net energy out of water. It doesn't work like that. All he's doing is cracking water to hydrogen and oxygen, and then burning it back into water.
People've been doing the whole 'water powered car' sham for years. It's still a sham. ![]() _____________________

Its acutally pretty similar to the ethanol cycle, since there is a significant investment of energy into its production that typically exceeds what you get back in the burning process. _____________________

It is a bit of a shell game... In the case of electrolysis of water, it's a very large shell game. Typical efficiencies are 50-75% for the electricity to hydrogen alone, then you have to multiply by say 30% to generate the electricity, so you're down to somewhere around 15 to 25% at best to get the hydrogen, maybe worse if you're not right beside the power plant. Now you've got to compress the hydrogen for storage, then burn the hydrogen or use it in a fuel cell and use the resulting electricity to power a car. These are all very far from 100% efficient. It's more efficient to reform natural gas, or maybe use a high temperature nuclear reactor, but those have their own problems and inefficiencies. Just using the natural gas straight might make a lot more sense. Or we in the US could mandate increased fuel efficiency, or greatly increase gasoline taxes - Oops, sorry, the Devil made me say it. |

electricity can be produced using non polluting powerplants such as nuclear, hydro, and wind.
