Lets explore this: From: Roxie Marten I wish we had a NOTA (None of the above) slot on the ballot. If they keep putting morons on the ballot like they have in the past, I may not vote at all in the next election.
Rox I think if we had a 'none of the above' on the ballet, we'd certainly get more voter turnout. Imagine 100% of people vote, 22% vote for the democrat, 22% vote for the republican, and 56% vote for "None of the above". What do we do then? Clearly the majority don't want either choice. Do we hold another election? More primaries? Should we, in the future, just assume that people who don't vote automatically fall into the None of the above category to save time (and force candidates to get true majorities)? Thoughts?

We do. It's called, "write in."
One suggestion I've heard as a viable election alternative is voting for "all acceptable choices". So in a 3-party race, people might vote for 2 (or even all 3 candidates), giving a much more accurate view of which choice would best fit everyone.
This works on the principle that the majority is not often the best compromise.

Well, what I mean is leaving "None of the above" as a selectable choice on the ballet no matter what. I often see a single candidate running unopposed in those local elections sometimes and it might be interesting to see how those would turn out if there was, by default, at least 2 choices (the one candidate and the negative option). That alternative you mention is kinda interesting as it lets you vote more like a multi-checkbox rather than a single selection method.
A sample ballot might look like this:
Senate - District 3 1. Deer Park 2. Vintage Springs 3. None of the Above 4. Write in here: _______

I think it's a fascinating concept.... like in that Richard Pryor movie, Brewster's Millions. I've wondered before, what would happen if 'None of the Above' was an option in a presidential election, and won? I know, obviously it'd never happen, but doesn't it make kind of a cool thought?

Yeah I loved that movie. Part of the problem with our system today is it is very hard for additional parties to get official support (or even recognition in media). So if we had a mandated option for "we don't like the above candidates", then we could figure out what to do from there if it happens.
