Maerl - I saw your thread about the Banana awhile back and it took me awhile to get off my butt and get these pics for you, but these plants are in my back yard. I just want you to know that I am working on preserving the Banana Plant.

edited - I have an excellent recipe for dried honey banana chips too!

Total Floriduh flashback... we had those in my yard growing up as a wee lad.

The bananas never tasted good though.

The bananas never tasted good though.

Probably the difference between plantains and bananas. One is sweet and mushy when ripe and the other is starchy, more like a potato. I like Plantains fried, served with rice and beans but you can't just eat them without cooking them. It's a standard Cuban dish here.

Mine at home are the sweet kind. I cut them up and soak them in honey water and then dehydrate them into chips. My husband LOVES them.

you have given hope to all us banana fanatics...my home base is actually In south west florida, of which i will be returning to in less than 2 weeks...my brother in law has some beautiful banana trees as well, but nothing as large as you have here...keep the faith...grow dem bananananananana's
