"Other states may have more people, but they have bigger populations"

Said 2 minutes ago, just a few sentences into his speech. He's taking questions today. If he's already flubbing this early into things, it could be a good.

Could you kindly let us know when it's over? I'd like to pour through the transcript, as is my wont.

'Twas your interpretation. You have an unfair advantage... So, can I borrow your dumbass to English dictionary when you are through with it? I feel it is the only way I'll be able to understand much of what the pres is saying today. :)

:D Current Homeland Security Policies will not allow this at the moment. The grass roots repubrocrat movement is working diligently to have these policies changed. BTW your educator in chief just preyed for you! I hope you're happy hippie!

Brilliant - it is precisely because Bush does this that he is not ridden out of office on rail by the American people.

This sort of stupidity endears him to the majority of them.

Now if he were a Rhodes Scholar and didn't say stupid stuff like this - he would absolutely be a smartass that they would be clamoring to bring down a peg or two.

doofus or cultivated persona?

It is hard to not see or hear Bush speak and think "could this guy really be this stupid?"; I recently found that it is almost assuredly an act and a well honed one. Perhaps the most compelling evidence is that he lost a senatorial race in Texas in 1978 because he struck the populace as too intelligent. His opponent (a Texan) ran an advertisement:
In 1961, when Kent Hance graduated from Dimmitt High School in the 19th congressional district, his opponent George W. Bush was attending Andover Academy in Massachusetts. In 1965, when Kent Hance graduated from Texas Tech, his opponent was at Yale University. And while Kent Hance graduated from University of Texas Law School, his opponent -- get this, folks -- was attending Harvard.
Bush was also quoted in that election as saying "Today is the first time I've been on a real farm". This is quite a difference from the country-bumpkin persona that Bush now affects. As Rove is reported to have said in 2002:
"I can't explain why they underestimate him, but they do. Whatever the reason, I hope they keep doing it." (can't find an authoritative source, sorry)
Pretending that you don't know anything about the thing you lead is useful because you don't have to answer hard questions. And it was Reagan who was thought to be the actor...

No, damnit, this isn't about parties - of which I care not - it is about political rheotoric.
