I hope that next year will see people actually listening to each other rather than relying on convenient stereotypes to sum up other people's points instead of actually reading them.

I hope that the intelligent, non-religiously fanatic right and left will actually explore the other side's views, concede that the other has a point and is doing what they think is best for the nation, and then continue hating each other with a philosophical passion rather than one fueled by windbags in the media.

I hope that people use a dictionary, or three, so they actually know what words mean before they argue about them. I also hope they realize that connotations are a big part of communication and that other people might be using one word because they actually don't know the appropriate synonym. I hope people will offer it to them rather than openly laughing at them (unless they are a pain in the ass and deserve it), but laughing inside is fine if it makes you feel like a stronger person.

I also hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas even though I don't like the holiday, advertisement-driven consumerism, or Jesus. But I do like the wonder and joy of children. So still... Merry Christmas. :D

I also hope in the coming year that I make less run-on sentences, less inverted sentences, and learn about the subjunctive mood so I know whether or not I should forget it again.

I also hope that I will harness the powers of snow and ice, freeze LA in a mid-June winter, and instantly transform my tea from "scalding" to "must sip" temperatures in the blink of an eye.

Oh, also, I need to remember to look up the ingredients in konjac, the origins and uses of calcium stearoyl lactylate, and a recipe for hot and sour soup that tastes like the kind at Mao's Kitchen in Venice.

I hope (I really do), to speak less parenthetically (as in to make "asides";), to use many fewer "quotation" marks (when they are not warrented), and of course not to go on and on about "things" when half as many sentences will suffice (as they usualy do).

This reminds me of a long story... :)

Well I won't go on about that now, but since I also don't belive in consumerism or "Jesus" but do love drinking Amarula and staring at the (blurry) tree, I will chuck in a cool Albert Einstein quote about "wonder" for Chance.

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed." Albert Einstein.

Merry Christmas :D

Merry NewYear and Happy Solstice time, and heck even to those who believe it; Happy Birthday baby Jesus!

While I should also stop my "flagrant" over-use of the "mighty" "quotation-mark", I can't "guarantee" anything. <Logan also wonders if he should stop faux-emoting in IM and here in the forums, or jumping into the 3rd person perspective>... <Decides he'd have better luck if he tried to quit smoking again this year. ;) >

I also hope that everyone is having a wonderful holiday, and resolve this year to actually try to contribute with thought out rational discourse instead of just hopping in and saying something silly for the sake of my own ass-hattery.

Oh, and "HIPPOS FOR PRESIDENT!" :o
