kk my mom just bought a new comp ... had it custom built at a reputible local dealer that used by many of the commercial companies as well.
OS - Win XP Optical mouse and reg keyboard
dunno other details...
she's on dial up.. not a problem
PROBLEM!!!
when they get connected and open IE once the page loads and they click the drop down box to go to any web page... the drop down box goes nuts!! it pops up and down and up and down and up and down..... and won't stop until the window is not the active window.
We called a friend who is the comp person for his company and he suggested it be the mouse or the keyboard....
soo I rebooted and put a cloth under the mouse and the page worked fine... until I rebooted again..... mouse still on the cloth... it popped up and still did the same thing. soo I closed out the browser and opened it again with the mouse off the cloth.... same thing..... picked the mouse up and wiped the bottom with a soft cloth and put it back on the cloth and it stopped... This is the funniest thing I've EVER seen. It's been taken back to the creator 3 times for this problem.. The last time the guy replaced the motherboard saying he found something wrong with it, BUT this problem with the drop down box persists...
They did not take the keyboard and mouse to the shop with the computor and as long as it's at the shop it works fine.. Thus our conclusion.. has to be the mouse or keyboard..
ANYONE have any clues other than this ?? i'm up for suggestions LMAO HELP!

Get a new cheapy cheap mouse and keyboard?
If everything continues to work, take back the origional mouse and keyboard o wherever you bought it.
Have you tried that mouse and keyboard with another PC?
Did any drivers come with either the mouse or keyboard? If so have you tried re-installing them?

I've had things like that happen and it's been the keyboard (or, more exactly, something resting on a key) - it sounds like it could be one of the keys getting stuck.
Try running the PC without the keyboard connected and see if the problem still happens. There's an on screen keyboard in accessibility under accesories on the start menu if you need it.

This usualy happens when a command is called to a many number of times, usually happens when a button is stuck or the hardware may have a defect to call a command repeatedly & not-stop. However such instances are largely limited to input devices, ie you mouse & keyboard in this aspect. If you have another system, u can test out the keyboard & mouse to comfirm the problem & send it for an exchange as Zapoteth Zaius & the rest mentioned. Otherwise sometimes it could be due to a conflict between the interupt request (IRQ) allocation on your computer. Usually happens with many USB devices, etc conneccted at once. You will have a higher chances of conflict if your mouse & keyboard run off USB, unlike ps2 ports.
