I have been curious now for a long time, but I was wondering how most gay or lesbians felt about the series on Showtime...The L Word. I have only watched it a few times and I noticed that most of them, actually all of them are like these perfect model looking lesbians (lipstick lesbians). Do any of you take offense to that or do you embrace it? I am not suggesting that there aren't beautiful lesbians out there but the reality is not all look like they do in the L Word. The same goes for straight ppl as well. I wonder what the organization NOW thinks of a show like that? Any comments?

I've not watched it, but I'm willing to bet that 99% of the heterosexual males are completely fine with it!

Don't know the show in question, but what you say applies to virtually all entertainment.

In the one episode I saw, it seemed like they (the makers of the show) were trying way too hard to make it a cool show.
By that, I mean it was very unnatural and forced.
More like trying to make a statement, rather than showing us what lesbian life is like.
If that is what they were trying to do, they did it. I would rather have seen the latter.
It also seemed like swearing was worked into the script just because they were allowed to swear, not really because it fit what was going on or what was being said.
All that said, I've never made a note to see another episode.
That's entertainment.

I watched the whole first season (free on DVD from the video store). I was engrossed with it, and I'm looking forward to the next season which just showed up there. (Yay!) I think the actors on this show bear the same resemblance to everyday lesbians that actors on any other show have to regular people - in other words they are character types but happen to be way more attractive or charismatic. And OMG, top of that list is Shane, she's this predatory, androgynous wonder that I was dreaming about a lot afterwards. Heterosexual males are likely to be disappointed. Sure, there's some hot sex scenes, but you'll have to fast forward through all the overwrought drama and comic relief bits to get there. I guess a way to measure it would be whether you were enthralled with shows like Sex in the City, Six Feet Under, or Desperate Housewives. I think the main thing this show will bring to the general public is a whole new set of stereotypes about lesbians which may not have been well-known outside of the community. Lots of fun new words for you to use, like LUGs, 100-foot dykes, drag kings, etc. Oh, and you can call me Lisa. Oh, and the clothes... wow, the clothes they found for this are amazing! I wish more SL designers did stuff like that.

The first season of the L word was excellent. I really enjoyed the storylines. I found the second season annoying. There are so many character that I just don't care about now. From: someone I have only watched it a few times and I noticed that most of them, actually all of them are like these perfect model looking lesbians (lipstick lesbians). I think of these shows the same way I think of shows like Melrose Place or Desperate Housewives. The fact that the main characters are lesbans is incidental. This is a night time soap opera where people are a lot more beautiful and have a lot more sex than the average population.

I can't say I watched it because all of television reminds me of soap no matter what lies they tell in promoting it.
