I have all of the series, and Red Alert is my fave. I should break them out again someday. We used to have big LAN party tourneys - I miss those days.

Can you still play online on those services Eins?

I know Renegade no longer uses EA servers for their in-game service, it uses XCC or something like that. But its still going! I'm not too sure as far as the Generals and such go, I'd have to try it. But yes, Red Alert 1 is my favorite also.

I wish they would make another CnC.

I'm still trying out all the titles to see which of them still offer some kind of online service, so far Renegade is still going.

I played all of them. Red Alert was probably my favorite too. Those were the good old days when RTS games were still fairly new. I can't begin to count the number of hours I spent playing Warcraft 2, Red Alert, and Total Annihilation. TA is my all time favorite.

Same here. I played that game for hours and hours. In fact I just installed it again the other day in a fit of nostalgia. (Curse you, Lordfly! *shakes fist*)

The designer of TA is making a "spiritual successor" called "Supreme Commander". It looks awesome.

I saw that in one of the game mags a month or two ago, and I played the heck out of TA as well, so I will likely check it out.

Wouldn't it be great to make a working RTS within SL? Hmmm....

I don't think a working RTS is possible in SL. I've tried it. Too many data servers, too many corresponding scripts, etc etc, not to mention, you'd need an entire sim just to play it.

But, would be interesting..

Renegade!!! YES!!! Loved it!! Loved the entire series of CnC games!! But once games like FarCry & EA's Battlefield series came out I just lost interest in playing Renegade. Still is a great game!

I've always been of the opinion that the original C&C was the best of the series, and everything after was downhill.

Renegade was fun, but as I recall they backed out on a lot of things they were promising to do with it in terms of features. Bad timing, really, is what killed it I think... As mentioned, the Battlefield series, Tribes, Planetside... all did the same things it was trying to do, better, in the same general time period.

TA was *awsome*. It's amazing that the sequal sucked so bad. I'm really looking forward to the new one, though. Still, I'd vote for Warcraft 2 as my favorite RTS game of all time.

My current favorite RTS games are Nexus, and Homeworld 2, though there are some good ones on the horizon it looks like.
