I use gaim, which supports pretty much everything out there running simultaneously... I just took a peek at my IM window, and the MAJORITY of people who are online is using gmail/gtalk. Is google taking over the IM world?

I mostly use Yahoo for IMing and Google talk for actual rl chatting because it works so much better than Yahoo. Unless it's for group chat, Google doesn't have that option yet. :(

I use trillian pro when in windows. I have a gtalk account, but since I don't know anyone else who uses it, I'm never logged in.

I use gmail for my SL stuff. I also have really old Excite and Yahoo email addresses - going on ten years soon I believe.

I use my ISP's (Comcast) email service for the "real" stuff.

I use mostly YIM for messaging, but have Skype, ICQ, and MSN Messenger (*does a Hail Mary*) accounts as well. I do have gtalk installed, but have never used. No one I know is on it...

I don't voice chat. My headset doesn't work any more and also, I don't want to voice chat. I can type quite fast enough, thank you, and I don't want my flatmate and neighbours listening in.

I have accounts on all the major systems which I can use all at once through Jabber, but none of them are voice.

I HATE Yahoo, for the record. It's hard on my resources, it's full of (expletive not entered) I don't want/care about/need and the sound quality is sub-par. Never use ICQ, MSN, or any other chat services, and I left AOL in the last millenia (around 1997 or so).

Gmail, GoogleTalk and the emerging Google-fied expected developments (-earth, -calendar, etc.) continue to amaze and please me with their smooth ergonomics, light on resources (esp. chat function) stance and priority on hassle-free use before adding new whiz-bang stuff.

I've been using the Gmail/Talk for well over a year now and I'm duly impressed.

I use Skype for the very best (Have a stereo mic & headphones? That's what you'll hear! It's better than any other medium, including a good, clean, landline phone.) audio quality, file sharing when an email attachment won't do, and one on one web chat at full motion speed.

GoogleTalk is for telephone quality voice chat, hassle-free one on one text chat and quick notification of incoming emails. Also, at RadioRadio we've found that GoogleTalk is compatible with DJing, for use as a "call-in show" method. I expect web cam functions to come soon enough.

I use TeamSpeak for 4+ person voice chat (which means every day in EQII and during most SL RadioRadio events)

Yahoo is for VERY old net buddies (folks from more than, well nearly 3 years ago only), multi-person text/voice/cam chat, it is used begrudgingly, and with much annoyance on my part. I just wish I could ditch it but ... too many contacts there. :o

Once Google handles multi-chat and video/multi-video, I suspect Yahoo will find it's way OFF my 'puter.

Those are listed in order of audio quality, btw, best to worst. Yahoo hasn't sounded any better than when I first used it and the others continue to improve. To me, Yahoo is ... nvm, I'm sure you got the point. hehehe

Interesting question, hope this helps! :D

I use Yahoo for SL and MSN for RL. I have a Gtalk account but like Siobhan, I don't know anyone else who uses it! So I only ever opened the program 5 minutes after I got it :p.

I use Gmail because it's very easy to use. I remember the joy I experienced upon receiving my invite. I've used it intensely ever since. The labels are great for sorting and work better for me than the conventional folders, as I can tag something with multiple labels for easy sortage. Makes my work organization easier.

I'm looking forward to trying Writely, Google's web word processor.

I don't really care for text-only chat. Puts me to sleep. z.z

You're not alone, Eggy. I use Gaim too. I only fire up Google Talk when I need to voice chat with somebody. Once Gaim integrates gtalk's voice protocol, I won't need to use gtalk anymore. :D

I use gTalk for most of my SL business dealings. The Second Style staff use it to communicate with eachother. We have RL jobs and are able to keep up on magazine stuff with the intergrated web base gTalk in <3Gmail<3 while we are there. I can't wait for video and conference options!!

Skype is my baby. I use it to talk to SL friends, RL friends, family and much more. I love that they now have free SkypeOut. I was a fan of SkypeOut anyway and now, it's just soooo much better.

MSN I use for everyone as well. Mostly older RL friends and RL CoWorkers.

Yahoo, I hate! Any time i use it I sign in as Invisable. There really is no point in me having it at all.

ICQ I used to use AGES ago, but only for family.

I have trillian installed but never fire the baby up. I've also tried other apps, but they were short lived. Skype...will you marry me?
