Awhile ago I posted asking for help in finding a movie and some kind soul mentioned it was Stalker directed by Andrei Tarkovsky who also directed Solaris. I want to thank that person because I went out and got Solaris and all I can say is WOW!

The ending left me absolutely speechless. I have never experienced a cinematic event like that.

Why am I posting this? I dunno. Simply to thank that person and reccommend Solaris if you are a fan of deep meaning type movies.

I also want to mention that Stalker is an equally as good, if not better, movie.

The original Solaris is stunning.
I lasted half an hour of that awful remake of it with george clunie before I switched it off in disgust.

The remake wasn't great, but the soundtrack by Cliff Martinez is absolutely amazing. I've yet to see the original film but have always wanted to, especially now.

Ironically, just watched the original Solaris. Wow!

Very slow - not a bad thing - at times, but very disturbing. Well worth sitting through, but if you get the DVD (two disk) version, please make sure you turn on subtitles, for two reasons:

1) Several important statements are not translated from the Russian in the English soundtrack.
2) Several translations are different in the audio as compared to the subtitled version.

Well worth exploring both to really get the significance of the staring sequence film within a film.
