Old news, sadly.

The meaning of it? Parents dont want to be parents. They want showpieces. These are the same people who don't think the phrase "trophy wife" is something to be ashamed of.

*edit* Although, I would like to point out, after reading through that second link... note how they are constantly saying "we suspect" and "uses language similar to" and such. I would take most of the entries on that list with a grain of salt without some further information. I absolutely believe this stuff happens, but I'm concerned the second link may be over dramatizing some of the cases.

The fact that this is "old news" is rather distressing. I have only found out about this yesturday, and I am pretty shocked by the concept. Most of my friends have never heard about this either - its pretty obscure for the most part.

Whats worse is, it may be old news, but check the list: There's a huge number of these facilities still up and running today as we speak. This is just plain wacked out.

I have heard of facilities like these -- I think the first one I heard about was when I was 16. They ARE very disturbing -- I can only hope that people make enough noise about each one they find out about and get it shut down. I don't know.

We're just all too concerned with gay people marrying gay people and adopting children and turning them gay too.

Wow, never heard any of that stuff about Teen Challenge. My cousin went through one of their centers in Ohio and has been drug-free for
going on 12 years now. He certainly wasn't abused, so I guess there's a few bad apples in every bunch.

I love how the site lists the same exact text for every single Teen Challenge center in the country, obviously not taking the time to research and verify the conditions at any of them. There wouldn't be very many on this list if you take out the all the Teen Challenge centers. Seems they just took the main Teen Challenge list and added every single one as a torture center. Real objective.

Yeh. I read through the student and parent handbooks for some of the places they list - unless they are massivly mis-representing themselves, most of them dont strike me as anything terribly serious. Strict, last-chance type places? Absolutely. The gulag? No.

The one in Jamaica, however, I've heard about many times. That one is seriously twisted.

I've found quite afew links that point at various info bits related to these facilities... it actually looks like many of these facilities are "gulag" - though some are less bad then others.

Some of the personal experience reports i've seen were pretty bad. I didnt list it here, though I can dig for the links again if you want. But honestly, its all a google search away.

That site I listed is just one of many. Dont take it as the only and best example. Search if you want to see if this is true or not and judge for yourself. So far what i've seen is pretty darn convincing.
